Industrial Visit Proton

Industrial Visit to Proton Shah Alam

On 14th February 2019, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) of Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Skudai, Johor held an Industrial Visit to Proton Shah Alam, Selangor. The objectives of the visit are as follows:

  • To provide the students an insight into a national automotive company.
  • To give awareness to the students about R&D processes.
  • To provide an opportunity, to learn practically through interaction, working methods, and employment practices.
  • To help students to combine both theoretical knowledge with industrial knowledge.
  • To help students gain first-hand information regarding the functioning of the automotive industry.

As a secretary of the organizer, I am responsible for providing the report of the visit and ensuring the attendance of the participants throughout the visit. we depart at 6:15 am and arrived at Proton Holdings Berhad at 11:45 am. The breakfast for participants is provided and distributed after registration. Upon the arrival of the students, the briefing starts in the lobby of the building. We started by going to the Research and Development (R&D) followed by the noise laboratory.

After the lunch break, we went to the Gallery Showroom which displays all the car models Proton including the discontinued and yet-to-be-launched cars. At the end of the visit, we were given the opportunity to visit the Motorsport Division where all the sports cars used in races are kept. The staffs give an explanation of each sports car and demo how each car works. We depart back to UTM after the closure of the visit.

As the outcome of the visit, participants get to experience and learn deeper about Proton's organization, capabilities, R&D, and industry work-life. This program allows me to gain knowledge on cars, models, internal work-life, industrial environment, and many others. It is such a great opportunity, especially for those with a high interest in industrial work-life.
