Peace Road 18'
Peace Road '18
On 20th October 2018, the Student Committe (JKM) of Kolej Tun Razak (KTR) held an event called Peace Road '18 at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Skudai Johor Bahru. This event aims to raise awareness of preserving peace, and promoting a healthy lifestyle while enjoying nature. It is a 6km night-run event with the inclusion of merchandise such as t-shirts, custom-made lanyards and medals, glow sticks, runner's bib, and free food and beverages.
As a marketing team member, I am responsible for attracting all students, residents in UTM, and outsiders to participate in the event. The target is to achieve an estimation of 200 participants. I start to promote the event two months earlier by creating all social media accounts for this event such as Twitter and Facebook. Apart from that, my team members and I actively participate in booth events to promote our event. To raise awareness of this event, outdoor promotion is as effective as social media and indoor promotion. Outdoor promotion attracts more outsiders to participate. We go to several places that suit our objectives such as Hutan Bandar, and the recreational park.
Before the event start, we start with the registration of participants which is followed by handing out the merchandise. Before starting off the night run, there is an opening event by reciting doa and some stretching conducted by the committee. The night run ended at 11 pm after all the participants finished and the closure of the event was held.
As a committee member, I am satisfied with the outcome of the event. Had the promotion been done half-heartedly, there will be lesser participants and not very much welcoming. This event provides me the opportunity in obtaining experience in management, marketing, and handling events, as well as making new friends and connections.
