Case Study Reflection

I learned about how damaging plastic bags, a product used in everyday life, can be to the environment. I also learned how simple it is to make a switch from those bags to the reusable kinds or simply not using anything at all if the amount of products bought is small. I discovered that Malaysia has a policy stating that plastic bags can not be used at all.

I realized during this unit that my voice can be heard if I present myself in a credible and professional way. I can make a difference in the community, which I never thought I could do before. This is an example of how you can be an engaged citizen in Malaysia. It is important to know the problems that are occurring locally that need to be changed and you can make that difference as long as you put the work in.

I do see myself continuing to work on making the environment better by putting a fee or ban on plastic bags after the project is over. This is because we will be searching for an article in the paper about my case study. Also, we will be hoping for the mayor to enact the fee we discussed in the near future. It is very important to us that this becomes enacted within Malaysia in order to make a leap in the city’s environment. Advice for someone continuing to work on this issue in the future should not waste any time contacting the local businesses since they will all redirect you to corporate offices. Jump straight to contacting corporate offices in order for your voice to be heard.
