"Discrete Structure" or "Discrete Math" is not the name of a branch of mathematics, like number theory, algebra, calculus, etc.
Rather, it's a description of a set of branches of math that all have in common the feature that they are "discrete" rather than "continuous".  

Why study discrete structure in computer science?

The subject does not directly help us in developing something or writing a program. At the same time, it is mathematics underlay at almost all of computer science. The subject uses various techniques which is very rarely found in other mathematical counterpart. Other than that, we will also be learning to write accurate mathematical statement that achieves of what we want in an application.
