Activity Information: Internet of Things (IoT - Transaction Based Network)

Date: 18th November 2018

Venue: Lecture Hall P03 - 221

Organizer: Maxis

Position: Participant

Scholarship

Mini Report:

This program objective is to provide exposure for students interested to pursue telecommunication engineering as a career. The program speaker, Mr. M Nazrul Hazeri Nazirmuddin a Solution Design Architect for Maxis started the talk by presenting two topics, "Man-Computer Symbiosis" and "History of the Internet" briefly. However the main topic to be discussed is "Blockchain Technology", which is an ongoing method that handles information and user data reliably.

Self Reflection:

This program helped me understand the importance of a certain graduate attribute, Scholarship. This particular attribute enables me to be receptive to new information towards developing an inquisitive mind that is curious to learn and further improve my knowledge. By exposing myself to understand current world technology, I am able to keep myself up-to-date and able to contribute to my current learning experience.

IoT Talk (Transaction Based Network) by Maxis

Venue: P03 - 221

Date: 18/11/2018 (12:00 pm -1:00 pm)

On 18th November, I participated in an Internet of Things, (IoT) Talk by Maxis. Initially, this talk was introduced to me by my MatLab Programming Lecturer, Dr. Mohd Adib and he also realized that this talk is a great experience for those who want to become an engineer specialized in telecommunication. The talk began a few minutes early since there was a large audience. The speaker was a Solution Design Architect for Maxis and a close friend to my lecturer named, Mr. M Nazrul Hazeri Nazirmuddin.

He started the talk by giving is a rough outline on the talk which was ‘Man-Computer Symbiosis’ and ‘History of the Internet’. After a while, he began explaining the current situation of the Network Architecture of some companies and how certain companies handle information transfer. There was some issues and problems, mainly regarding surveillance, censorship and commoditized user data. Next, to have a general idea on how the internet started and how information was treated before, he points out that initially, the internet around the 70s and 80s are disconnected and news are scattered and unregulated. At present, information is aggregated and connected, however, the anonymity of some data is questionable and might be unreliable. Finally, he illustrates a vague image in the future, information will be more distributed and decentralized.

Later, he introduced to us ‘Blockchain Technology’, an ongoing method that handles information and user data reliably. Blockchain in general is a peer-to-peer connection between users distributing ledgers under a particular agreement which can be divided inti ‘Open Public Blockchain’ and ‘Permissioned Enterprise Blockchain’. This method is also dependent on servers so, data fraud is no longer a problem and its network architecture are flexible because it supports both server-based and peer-to-peer network.

In short, Dr. Adib made an excellent decision recommend us this fascinating talk. This presentation absolutely amazed me and I hope I can attend future talks similar to this one.
