Role: Committee
PPI UTM Mengabdi was conducted over the span of a year, starting from July 27, 2022, and was initiated by a volunteer team established under the Indonesian Consulate General. The team collaborated closely with the Indonesian Consulate to achieve its goal of enhancing educational opportunities for Indonesian youths. This program was directly aligned with the institution's focus.
Volunteers engaged in activities from March to the end of April. The main activities included teaching sessions and socialization with students in Ladang Kosma, Muadzam Shah, starting from August 2022. They also visited SIJB (Indonesia - Johor Bahru School) for teaching practice sessions, continuing their efforts at ICC Ladang Kosma from March to April 2023. Locations were selected after thorough discussions and surveys with the Indonesian Consulate to ensure suitability.
With a total of 58 volunteers involved and benefiting 31 students from Ladang Kosma, the program was successful and had a significant impact on the students, notably improving their literacy and mathematical abilities. UTM International was actively involved in monitoring and managing volunteers during the program.
The program drew inspiration from Indonesia's Village Resolve program and was implemented with a similar approach to support society. Supervision was provided by the Social Relations Department in collaboration with the Academic and Research Development Department. The Indonesian Consulate General expressed gratitude for the program's effectiveness in providing continuous education for ICC Ladang Kosma students through volunteer efforts. Moreover, volunteers gained invaluable experience in educational engagement and dedication to fostering enlightenment through education.
Self Reflection
Being a committee member of this volunteering act was a humbling experience. Since this program centers around helping the needy in places deep in the countryside.
While I am not directly tasked with nor responsible for getting into touch with the folks I helped out by bringing out stuff to them in my spare time, it is also a nice little vacation due to the escape to the countryside and the easy-going living of the folks there.
My actual responsibility lies in contributing to the multimedia, helping out in handling social media, and designing posters for the numerous days of the program. It is a blessing to be a reliable multimedia person because I get asked a lot to help out in events and programs like this, constantly getting exposure in the process. This whole thing is perfect because the theme of the program is altruism, helping out, and giving out.
