My Experience in Overhauling a Rotary Lobe Pump
I had the opportunity to overhaul a rotary lobe pump. A lobe pump is a type of positive displacement pump that uses two rotor to create flow in fluid. The one I overhauled is a Waukesha Cherry-Burrell 030-U2 model from SPXFLOW.
This lobe pump has leaking problem caused by worn-out mechanical seal. Hence, a new mechanical seal needs to be installed. In addition, the other replaceable parts such as o-rings, diaphragm and bearings will also be replaced.
Wave Spring of mechanical seal is in poor condition

- Pull out rotor from chamber
- Detach chamber from the pump body
- Remove stationary face of the mechanical seal at the back of the chamber and rotating face of mechanical seal on the shaft.
- Detach gear case cover and remove gears
- Pull out both shaft from the front-end
