Overhauling Centrifugal pump

Isolation of Pump from System

DSCN0249.JPG

Centrifugal pumps operate at a higher revolution per minute (rpm). This causes a higher rate of wear and tear. This particular pump is overhauled because vibration analysis shows that the bearing are in poor condition and needs to be changed.

Before any mechanical works on site could start, the mechanical team needs work permit to be approved and driving motor of the pump has been lockout (de-energize) by E&I technicians. Then the pump will be isolated from the system before being removed from site.

Procedure of Removing Pump from System

Pump Bearings

This is the bearings on the shaft. The two bearings on the right are for axial force (thrust) while the single bearing on the left is for radial load.

Bearings are removed from shaft using hydraulic press. New bearings will be heated up using induction heater so that the inner race diameter expands. This will ease the process of sliding the shaft into the bearings.
