Internship Experience

This is my Internship Experience at DK Naval Technologies Sdn Bhd.

Job Scope

During my internship at DK Naval Tech, I have been assigned at 4 departments which are design, procurement, production and store department. I was mainly involved with the project engineer, senior naval architect and the general manager. By the time of our early days’ internship, the company was in initial stage of managing the government tender which is to build 3 boats for Fisheries Department of Malaysia. By that time, I was assigned with Mr. Afiq to help him in completing the particulars for fishing vessel and trimaran. In this phase, I learnt about what are the processes involved in ship design such as weight estimation, stability assessment and report documentation.

Then, I was assigned at procurement department where in this phase, I need to help Miss Farah to look for some marine equipment and item for our ongoing project such as slinger, marine bollard, searchlight and many more. I learnt to engage with supplier from China because we made order mostly from China because it is more reasonable and cheaper to buy in bulk quantity.

Next, When I was in production department, I was helping Mr. Muhyiddin cutting the important plates for the ongoing project of the fisheries department for the boat frames. Most of the time I was following and observing the process at the CNC cutting machine. This process was continued until I was at the store department where I also taking care of the store while observing the CNC cutting machine back and forth.

Introduction

I was placed in DK Naval Technologies Sdn. The main goal of the internship is to develop a complete grasp of the working relationship, accomplish the tasks, and actively participate in the workplace. In a way, it was more about understanding the practical application of all the studies and theories I had learned up to that point. This would assist me in laying the groundwork for both academic and personal progress. Along with general goals, the highlighted specific goals are listed below.

Conclusion

As a conclusion to my internship experience, I have changed myself to be more adaptable and creative to make myself marketable in the future. I have learned a lot from my team members every single week. Particularly for my line of study, which entails architectural work for either ship or offshore constructions, knowledge of Rhino 3D is crucial. Since my internship experience was conducted entirely online from home, I was still able to pick up knowledge from the company's seasoned employees. I am also grateful to my team for making time in the project's busy schedule to teach and introduce me to this project.

I am fortunate to be able to learn about both engineering and management job at the same time because my firm supervisor has prepared the learning outcomes that I will study throughout the internship period. When working with a professional firm, it is essential to comprehend these two concepts in order to grasp what the company is doing, how they handle the process from our company's side to the client's side, and to ensure that all sides abide by the policies.
