Reflection
The reason I entered this event is the express purpose to meet people. My plan was to meet people who are active in events while running the course. I just learn the importance of networking to build a career because no one person can do things alone. I also learn that to ensure that my network of contacts is effective and diverse, they needed to be of a different mindset from me. For example more focused on a different industry, different ambitions, different career choices. This led me to the choice of going to a sporting event. Since I am not a very sporty person, I would most likely spend attract and spend my time with people of the same disinterest of to the concept but by going out of my comfort zone for even just a while, I could get a contact that would help me get my foot in an industry I would never have access to before.
During the event I did meet a few interesting characters. Many familiar faces, friends, long time contact but then I met a few by striking up a conversation with them. It usually starts with why did you participate in these things but then I get to really know them. Maybe because of the heat or the tiredness but they are really talkative while we ran at a jogging pace. They gave me tips on how to run more efficiently, how to improve breathing so on and so forth. The information I volunteered was my name. After all the exercising, I was glad I met the people I met, I met people older, sometimes younger and all with different paths they choose in life and I am sure they can be great people I can count on if I need help.
