Reflection
I went into this with a new Heart and heavy mind. I wanted to try something new and be a part of something bigger. Since I have a soft spot for film and I was free at the time, I became the Krew Of this event.
it was the first of its kind in UTM, so everyone went into this blind. The director of the event was very passionate during the entire thing. From the very first day during the interview to the very last reflection on the entire event, he controls the situation in a timely manner. It really shows how great a leader he is.
I was part of the food unit along with 2 others, so my job was extremely simple. Serve the food, hope nobody gets food poisoning. But since I have no prior experience, I did not know what to expect. This is when I was introduced to all the minute details there are in planing each and single aspect of an event, and all the guidelines and protocols that must be followed to ensure everyone is safe and the University does not get sued.
The people I was working with were nice. They all expressed great interest in making this event a success. My Unit leader was also a person I would like to work with in the future even though he had problems delegating workloads. Each and every day leading up to the event was filled with stress, even more so during the event itself as we were dealing with problems and last-minute changes each time. For example, the number of VIPs increased at the last minute, so m unit must make a last-minute request to the caterers to prepare extra food. But my unit handled it gracefully as problems like these are expected to happen.
At the end of the event, we had a discussion on how to improve each and every aspect of our performance. All the unit leaders spoke out about every minute problem which really demonstrated how there were paying attention to these things. Overall, I truly hope that I can be a part of something like this again in the near future with more experience than what I had before.
