Personal Educational Philosophy
SHPP1002 PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
I believe every student in a classroom is a single entity that has distinctive learning aspirations and a unique set of needs and abilities in their own learning. It is my ambition to ensure the education is not solely about the acquisition of knowledge that happens in classrooms, but also outside of those walls whereby it leads to lifelong learning. By setting the goals, I am confident the students will be able to sustain the momentum to achieve their resolutions and determine whether they are succeeding. Hence, It is my responsibility as an educator to provide great learning outcomes that will give a massive impact on their life and the ability to thrive in the 21st century.
As a future teacher who will be teaching in times of the booming 4.0 Industrial Revolution, these are the matters I will strive for in my teaching career:
- Foster 21st century skills for successful learning outcomes to ensure the students thrive their educational
- Develop a conducive environment and effective management strategies in the classroom so the teaching and learning process can flourish.
- Make the technology based tools prevalent in my lesson plans to increase technological literacy in students.
- Embed Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in the learning process to introduce the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary to address sustainable development
- Incorporate student centered learning in the classroom to increase the students’ participation and actively collaborate in a team that leads to a deeper engagement of students’ thinking and problem-solving abilities.
I believe that teachers as facilitators for students to guide and provide activities for students in the classroom will be effective to achieve the desired outcomes. For example in learning grammar, the students will be given an opportunity to form a group of four. In the group they need to identify types of tenses and adjectives through the article that attributes to SDGs themes— ecological sustainability, social sustainability, and economic sustainability. Through this activity, they will equip analytical and comprehension skills to complete the task. From the article analysis, the students will discuss their findings and share opinions regarding the issue. With my guidance, I would also be providing them with the present truths and knowledge that they need in constructing their own worldview and truths. To assess the learning outcomes they are required to write a reflective essay that is less than 150 words.
In the matter of facts, I want to bring the real world into my English lesson so my students can experience new realities and truths by constantly adapting to the changes in the real world. I want them to perceive education is more than just sitting for examinations or to be employed by top-notch companies. I want them to be a person who has the capacity to think for themselves, possess global and critical thinking as well as be a lifelong learner. And when the evaluators come into my class, I would certainly they will see
- me guiding groups and conferencing with individual students to provide
- the students are engaging in meaningful learning activities, working cooperatively and taking ownership in their learning.
- the students feel safe and comfortable making mistakes and taking risks to improve their self-development.
- the classroom would be full of student work that celebrates their growth and meeting their learning
