PROGRAM INFORMATION

Program Description: The CHINESE DEBATE TRAINING CAMP SEMESTER 1 the YEAR 2022/2023 UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MALAYSIA is an annual program organized by the Kelab Debat, Pidato dan Pemikiran Kreatif (De’PIKIR) Chinese Debate Team. In this program, participants are able to learn more knowledge about debate through the talks given by experienced debaters, join debate competitions, and play games that are related to debate.

MINI REPORT

The Chinese Debate Training Camp semester 1 of the year 2022/2023 Universiti Teknologi Malaysia is an annual program organized by the Kelab Debat, Pidato dan Pemikiran Kreatif (De’PIKIR) Chinese Debate Team.

This program was held from 21st Till 22nd Oct 2022 in P19, UTM JB. The objective of this program is to attract enthusiastic debaters to the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. The second objective is to develop and polish debating skills among members. Next, it also aims to provide precious experiences that will create a spark that inevitably lights up the journey in tertiary education.

In this program, certain activities such as talks related to debate, games, and debate competitions had been held to achieve the objectives. The talks related to debate are given by senior debaters that have much experience in debate. During the talk sessions, senior debaters talk about the techniques of debate and also share their experiences with debate competitions with the participants. For the game sessions, all the games were designed to improve our thinking skills. Lastly, participants were given a chance to implement all the knowledge learn during the camp in the debate competition. All the participants were divided into groups to train their teamwork.

SELF-REFLECTION

In this program, I was a participant. This program gave talks and provides games about debate while a chance to join debate competitions was also given by this program.

As a participant, I have learned more knowledge, skills, and techniques about debate. This has increased my motivation and confidence to continue my debate life. Thanks to the sharing of the experience of debate by the seniors, it has helped me start thinking about what should I achieve as a debater. I started to know that it is important for a debater to think about all the things such as what should I do to achieve a better result.

From the game sessions and debate competition sessions, I learned that adaptability and teamworking are important for a debater as the debate is not a solo game but it works in a team.  

I am very grateful that I have the opportunity to join this program as a participant because I have learned lots of things, especially improving my thinking skills throughout the event.
