As a fundamental subject, this course equips the students with theory and practice on problem solving techniques by using the structured approach. Students are required to develop programs using C++ programming language, in order to solve simple to moderate problems. The course covers the following: pre-processor directives, constants and variables, data types, input and output statements, control structures: sequential, selection and loop, built-in and user-defined functions, single and two dimensional arrays, file operations, pointers, and structured data types.

Reflection

After the first week of this course I had mixed emotions, which are excitement and stress. The topics covered each week have given me the opportunity to increase my knowledge in programming areas. Having an interest in computer when I started this course has now grown to having an interest in programming and write a complete program as well.

I had learned a lot via assignment and lab exercise. My assignment is to write a program which helps to display theater seats, purchase theater tickets and calculate the total theater ticket fees. 

In conclusion, I find Programming Technique 1 very tough and challenging, since I was a pure science student and had no computer science basics. Hopefully with the lecturer's explanation I will be able to catch up and I will surely work more hard to do more hands-on coding practice to improve my programming skills and hope to do well in the final examinations.
