This course is designed to introduce some statistical techniques as tools to analyse the data. In the beginning the students will be exposed with various forms of data. The data represented by the different types of variables are derived from different sources; daily and industrial activities. The analysis begins with the data representation visually. The course will also explore some methods of parameter estimation from different distributions. Further data analysis is conducted by introducing the hypothesis testing. Some models are employed to fit groups of data. At the end of course the students should be able to apply some statistical models in analysing data using available software.

REFLECTION

We use data to count numbers and do many other things, data exists everywhere, anytime in our daily life. Although data is helpful, we need to organize it first, so statistics is necessary and important, and that's why we are studying the course Probability & Statistical Data Analysis (PSDA). Throughout the course, we get to do small projects and I found out a lot of interesting conclusion after conducting those projects. My group members and I had conducted one project so far with the topic "UTM Students' Choice of Telecommunication". From this project, I learnt how to conduct data analysis, the way to interpret data and how to present the result properly. I also get to do an individual project, which requires us to perform test analysis such as hypothesis testing, correlation analysis, regression analysis and chi-square test of independence. Special thanks to my lecturer, Dr. Chan Weng Howe who taught us and guided us throughout this course. Although we have to carry out online learning throughout the semester due to the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, Dr. Chan is always following up on our progress and he also keeps updating on the notes, exercises, and even have online meeting sessions every week for us to ask about any difficulties faced in the course. It is an honor to have a teacher that has great patience in guiding and helping us to achieve more in the course.
