This chapter describes the differences between system software and application software and explains the basic functions, features, and categories of different operating systems. Besides, it explains the purpose of utilities, utility suites, and how Window utility programs work.
Chapter 5: The System Unit
In this chapter, we learn to recognize different microprocessors, including microprocessor chips and specialty processors, compare different types of computer memory including RAM, ROM, and flash memory.
Chapter 6: Input and Output
This chapter defines input and describes different input devices like keyboards, pointing devices including optical scanners, RFID readers, and recognition devices. Besides, it also defines output and different output devices and combinations of input and output devices.
Chapter 7: Secondary Storage
From this chapter, we studied the difference between primary and secondary storage, identifying the important characteristics of secondary storage, including media, capacity, storage devices, and access speed. Besides, we also define cloud storage and cloud storage services which is one of the trend technologies now.
Chapter 8: Communications and Networks
This chapter explains connectivity, the wireless revolution, and communication systems and describes physical and wireless communication channels. Besides, it also describes data transmission factors, including bandwidth and protocols.
Chapter 9: Privacy and Security
This chapter identifies the most significant concerns for effective implementation of computer technology and discusses the primary privacy issues of accuracy, private networks, the Internet, and the Web on privacy.
Chapter 10: Information System
From this chapter, we learned about the functional view of an organization, describe each function and describe the management levels and the informational needs for each level in an organization.
Chapter 11: Database
In this chapter, we learn to distinguish between the physical and logical views of data. Besides, it describes how data is organized; characters, fields, records, tables, databases, and different database models.
Chapter 12: System Analysis & Design
This chapter describes the six phases of the system's life cycle, analyzes existing information systems, and evaluates the feasibility of alternative systems.
Chapter 13: Programming & Languages
From this chapter, we studied programming and the six steps of programming. Using design tools like pseudocode and flowcharts to design the flow of the program.
Industrial Talks
Apart from the lectures, we have attended several industrial talks throughout this semester.
#1&2 Industrial Talk TIS 2021 -Technology Information System & 4.0th Industrial Revolution

#3 Industrial Talk TIS 2021 -Amazon Web Services Could Computing

#4 Industrial Talk TIS 2021 -Current Trends of Augmented Reality in Industry

#5 Industrial Talk -Emerging Technology on Network Infrastructure

#6 Industrial Talk TIS 2021 -5G, Wi-Fi 6 and Emerging Network Technologies

#7 Industrial Talk TIS 2021 -Introduction to Data Visualization by Microsoft Power BI

Assignments and Project
In this course, we have 4 assignments and a group project to be completed throughout this semester. Each assignment is relatable to the industrial talks and the lectures learned.
Assignment 1 -We are required to make a poster about Technology Information System and Fourth Industrial Revolution based on industrial talks 1 and 2.
Assignment 2 - We are required to design a newsletter about Technology Information Systems, Cloud Computing, and Augmented Reality based on industrial talks 3 (Cloud Computing)and 4 (Augmented Reality).
Assignment 3 -We are assigned to make a magazine about Technology Information System, Emerging Network Technologies based on industrial talks 5 (Network Infrastructure) and 6 (5G and Wi-Fi 6).
Assignment 4 -We are assigned to make a report for the online dashboard of data visualization from a dataset. This assignment required us to learn the skills to analyze data using Microsoft BI in order to perform data visualization. (Industrial Talk 7 -Data Visualization)
Project - Low Fidelity Prototype
In this group project, we are required to select one of the technologies in the Fourth Industrial Revolution such as Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT) , and others. Besides, we are required to use Cloud Architecture in our project for application or database, or cloud services. For our group project, we choose IoT which designing a Smart Lock that can input and store the data in the database and application. Below are the proposal of our project, including the video and presentation.

Reflection on SECP1513 Technology and Information System
My goal/dream concerning my course/program:
Compared to having an outstanding good CGPA, I will be more concerned about the hard skills or soft skills earned throughout 4-year university life. In our program, some technical skills like database management, data analyzing, data mining and etc, are important to help us in our career future as these skills are tools that help us to do our data works or projects in the workplace. And hence, what makes more significant to our works is the technical skills learned and mastered in the university which is an essential tool for me to pursue my goals and dream to contribute my efforts on data works.
The action/improvement/plan necessary for me to improve my potential in the industry:
Despite there are lots of technical skills that can be learned from the courses provided which improve our potential in the industry, I think it will be great if we are proactive to learn more new things. And thus, I plan to use any long-term study break to self-learn new skills like Machine Learning or practice how to use the related programming language to solve data-related problems. Besides, it is essential to gain actual experience so it will be better if I try to intern in companies outside as a good way to earn new experiences. Overall, there are basically two things, learn extra new skills and earn work experience to improve my potential in the industry.
My opinion on whether this subject contributes to my knowledge on specific areas:
From this subject, Technology and Information System actually contributes a lot to my knowledge in some specific areas like 4IR, IoT, cloud computing, and also data analytics. We learn to know the outline and framework of how computer systems work and how cloud computing contributes fundamentally to technology and information system. From this subject, I am more understanding about cloud computing and database which are the parts I am interested in the most in this subject. Not only that, we did having AWS course about cloud computing and its architecture which is a very new thing and interesting for me.
Acknowledgment for lecturer:
I appreciate having a dedicated lecturer, Dr Izyan Izzati binti Kamsani who gives lectures and lessons interactively in online classes which makes the class have interacted actively while absorbing new knowledge. Thanks for the guidance and clear instructions, pieces of advice given while in doubt.
