MINI REPORT
Connecting People with Nature (COPE) is a top bidder program of Jawantankuasa Mahasiswa Kolej Tun Dr Ismail. This program is being collaborated with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS). This program's main focus is to implement awareness, especially towards nature and wildlife. In the aspect of raising awareness, the committee implemented several Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) such as Climate Action (SDG 13) and Life on Land (SDG 15) which aligned with the program's purpose.
This program was held for a certain period. A total of 3 online talks were held, where 2 talks were from MNS and one from WWF. Meanwhile, the competitions held were the Bird Race competition and the UTM City Nature competition. Alongside that 2 physical activities were held. The first is the Regreening at UTM and the next is the Regreening at Tanjung Piai.
It was the first hybrid program I took part in after the pandemic. This program allowed me to have the experience of conducting a physical program with my university mates.
SELF REFLECTION
I joined in the middle of the program when the recruitment form for the extra crew was distributed. I was hesitant since it will be my first time joining a hybrid program. I was placed in the activity department. It was a struggle to catch up with the tasks but I manage to cope with the help of the Head of the Department and the Vice director in charge. I faced several challenges, mainly the lack of communication. Due to many of us in the department, the Head of the Department lacked in giving clear instructions but I tried helping the HOD by passing the required information precisely to those in charge. Besides that, several of the crew are involved online. Thus, there was a lack of manpower but the other department crew was able to lend a hand whenever we need help.
This program has taught me to implement critical thinking and teamwork skills beyond my capabilities. Figuring out fast and effective solutions was the key to making the program a success. I have also improved my creative side by doing brochures and fun posters to guide the participants on planting during the Regreenning at the UTM event.
In conclusion, the program was a success despite several obstacles. However, I was delighted with the opportunity that was given to me. I gained great memories with my fellow crew members and new experiences from the physical program. It was a joy to work physically after the pandemic gap.
