Field of Study

Fundamental Mechanical Engineering subjects make up the core of the engineering studies at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Students pursuing specialisation in a particular field shall take additional elective subjects. The fundamental subjects offered are:

a) Applied Mechanics

b) Thermodynamics

c) Fluid Mechanics

d) Machine Design

e) System Design

f) Material Science and Materials Technology

Programme Learning Outcomes

Each graduate will demonstrate the following abilities upon graduation:

1. Ability to acquire knowledge and understanding of science and engineering principles relevant to Mechanical Engineering.

2. Ability to apply knowledge, techniques and tools in solving problems relevant to Mechanical Engineering.

3. Ability to design systems and critically evaluate components, processes or systems related to Mechanical Engineering using total approach.

4. Ability to creatively exploit the current knowledge and technology in line with the development in Mechanical Engineering.

5. Ability to manage engineering projects.

6. Ability to prepare, submit and present quality technical reports within a given time frame.

7. Ability to communicate effectively as an engineer.

8. Ability to work as a team.

9. Abillity to adapt to technical changes taking into consideration cultural, political and environmental issues.
