For this subject, my role is team activity; I am responsible for our group activity and any specific function or responsibility assigned to a team member in order to achieve the team's goals and objectives. My role in the team activity is to do a career talk and quiz at the community that we have chosen, which is Kampung Dusun Tua, Hulu Langat. I will be responsible for introducing the Software Engineering course to the people in Kampung Dusun Tua, and then I will conduct a quiz session to test their knowledge about the subject.
Here are the picture from Before, During and After.
Before
In this subject, UKQF2012 Digital media are related to community activity. Digital media has revolutionised our lives. It had created new opportunities for people to express themselves, connect with others, and consume content in new and innovative ways. On the other hand, it has also created new challenges and raised ethical concerns about misinformation and addiction. In our first class in digital media, our lecturer explained briefly about the subject. How I felt at the time was that the lecturer mentioned community activity, which meant we had to participate in activities outside of the university. From my experience, I've been involved with other communities during my previous studies. But nevertheless, I'm still looking forward to it. For our first task, we have to divide into groups of ten students at the start of our class. Each group was given the task of critically analysing the influence of digital media in our society. For our first task, we have to choose a leader and other positions as well, such as a secretary, activity leader, treasurer, etc. Our group decided on a leader, who is responsible for setting the direction of the group and mediating any disputes between team members. My first positions were as an assistant secretary, assisting the secretary with taking notes and other duties. I don't have any experience as a secretary. But after the position was put on me and they trusted me with it, I decided to accept it and try my best to do the job to the best of my ability.
As the positions have been set, we have to discuss and choose which community to work with and what programme or activity we can do in that community that involves digital media. My enthusiasm and eagerness to take on the role of assistant secretary proved to be beneficial, as I was soon given responsibility and the trust to carry out certain duties. While our group is brainstorming for ideas, our group leader, Azri, asked his members to share some ideas or experiences. Since some of us have had experience with community activity, I shared my story about my experience with a community that is doing an English learning activity at the Rohingya Education Center in Kuantan, Pahang. The programme is about teaching children at the education centre to learn English in a fun way with lots of fun activities. Our leader told me that the idea of teaching children about English is not bad, so he included that in our community plan. The idea was welcomed by the group members, and they felt that it was a great way to contribute to the community. One of our group members came up with the idea of teaching teenagers about technology and introducing them to computer science or even a job related to computer science. This idea was greatly appreciated by the group members, and it was decided to include it too in the community plan. For our activity, we decided to have a career talk to briefly discuss the possible careers for computer science majors and the types of jobs one may pursue with such a degree. We also wanted to do a quiz about a career in computer science, with a prize for the teenager who got the highest score. We were quite excited about the idea, and it was the perfect way to engage the teens and introduce them to career possibilities in the field of computer science We also wanted to share success stories of computer science professionals so that the teens could learn from their experiences. In my opinion, this would be a great way to inspire the next generation of computer science professionals by showing them that there are real people with successful careers in the field and giving them the tools to pursue the same paths. After the discussion, my group members agreed with the target community and the activity, and we all decided that this would be the most appropriate way to carry out our project. Our group had chosen a community, which is Kampung Dusun Tua, Hulu Langat. And our community targets teenagers aged 13 to 17 years old.
Career Talk
This is the slide's for Career Talk that me and Adam working on for the Talk.
Slides's For Career Talk
During
My position was changed from assistant secretary to team activity during the project's preparation report. This transition was not easy, as I had to quickly adjust to my new role and responsibilities. I still don't know why they changed my role, but I am determined to take on the challenges and make the most of this new opportunity. During the project preparations, I was assigned to create presentation slides for the career talk and quiz session. Although I had limited experience in creating presentations, I was determined to learn and put together the best presentation possible. Me and my other group member, Adam, were assigned the Career Talk presentation, which means we have to talk in front of the crowd. I have a mixed feeling about that; I feel anxious knowing that I have to talk in front of a crowd. Despite this, I am confident that with our hard work and dedication to the task, we can make an effective presentation for our career talk.
The talk is about careers in computer science, so me and Adam did some research on the internet about the career opportunities and found out there are so many types of careers for computer science majors, from software engineering and web development to game programming and data science As technology continues to grow and evolve, the options for computer science majors seem to be never-ending With the ever-changing technological world, computer science majors have a multitude of potential career paths to choose from. I felt incredibly inspired after researching this topic.
As for the quiz, me and Adam decided to do it using a website called Quizzes. Adam provided 20 simple questions about the career talk. We both agreed that the questions would help us review the key points of the career talk and give us a better understanding of the material. In my opinion, a career computer science quiz can be a valuable tool for exploring and determining your suitability for various roles within the field. By answering questions about their interests and values, they can get a better understanding of what types of computer science careers may be a good fit for them. It's also important to keep in mind that a career quiz is just one aspect of the career exploration process. In conclusion, a career computer science quiz can provide valuable insight into their potential fit for various careers in the field. However, it's important to use it as one piece of the puzzle and to continue exploring and learning more about the different career paths available.
On day one of the programme, we reached Kg Dusun Tua, Hulu Langat, at 10 a.m. Everyone is getting ready by taking the equipment inside the bus, and we arrange the chairs in the hall. A lot of children came, but there were like 7 teenagers that came for the programme. I’m a bit disappointed because I expected, like, maybe 20 teenagers to come for our career talk. But, despite my initial disappointment, I was pleased to see that the seven teenagers were enthusiastic and eager to learn about the various career opportunities available to them. At least I know that I don't have to feel nervous about presenting the career talk; I am honestly relieved, but I still hope that more teenagers will come to our career talks in the future, so we can create even more awareness about the various career options available to them.
After Airil gave a speech to the participants, the children went to Group 2's activity outside the hall. Adam did the introduction to the career talk and talked briefly about what computer science is and how it can be used in the real world. As for my part in the talk, I explained about a career in computer science, and the teenagers were paying full attention during the talk, which made me feel more confident in my communication skills. a little nervous and shaky, but it's not that bad. I've done public speaking before, but that was like 5 years ago. I still feel a bit scared. Nonetheless, I am proud of myself for pushing through my nerves and giving a successful talk.
After the career talk, we go through the quiz with the teenager. It was fun because they’re so talkative, and most of them got the answer right. It was clear that the teenagers enjoyed this session, as most of them answered correctly and were eager to participate. The discussion was engaging, and I was proud to see the knowledge they had gained from the session. I really enjoy the programme with them and seeing them grow in their understanding of the topics. In the end, it was wonderful to see how far they had come in such a short period of time. After the session had concluded, I asked the group to share their thoughts and reflections on the session They spoke highly of their experience and were appreciative of the guidance and support I had given them throughout.
After
Based on my observations throughout this subject, I believe that the session was beneficial for the group and that the participants felt comfortable sharing their ideas and opinions, as well as taking part in a variety of activities They seemed to have grown in confidence, understanding, and trust towards each other, which was especially satisfying for me to witness. I had the opportunity to share my knowledge and experiences in my field with a group of motivated individuals who were eager to learn and grow. One of the key highlights of the talk was the engagement and participation of the audience. I was impressed by their thoughtful questions and insightful comments, which helped to deepen my understanding of the topics we discussed. This interaction was a testament to the importance of having open and honest conversations about careers and personal growth. Overall, giving the career talk was a fulfilling and empowering experience. It reminded me of the impact I can have on others and the importance of being a mentor and role model in my industry. I would encourage others to take advantage of opportunities to speak and share their knowledge, as it can be a rewarding and impactful experience for both the speaker and the audience.
As for my group team work, We were all passionate about making a difference in our community, and this shared motivation helped to create a strong sense of camaraderie and teamwork. I was inspired by the dedication and hard work of my teammates, and I was proud to be a part of such a dedicated and motivated group. The group's effective communication and teamwork also had a significant impact on the success of the project. We took the time to regularly check in with one another, share our thoughts and ideas, and offer support and feedback when needed. This open and supportive environment allowed us to overcome challenges and work together to achieve our goals.
Overall, working on the community project with a group was a fulfilling and enriching experience. It highlighted the power of teamwork and collaboration in making a positive impact and it reinforced the importance of having a shared purpose and open communication in order to succeed. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a dynamic and impactful team, and I look forward to future opportunities to work with others.
