Experiencing KKN In Purwokerto (EKIP)

Programme Information

Sekretariat Rakan Muda Universiti Teknologi Malaysia intends to launch Experiencing KKN in Purwokerto (EKIP). This programme will be held for about 2 weeks at Purwokerto (specifically the city name is Kebumen), Jawa Tengah, Indonesia involving 30 UTM students. The program held from 8 August 2023 to 27 August 2023. But, KKN itself for UTM Student started from 10 - 24 August 2023

EKIP is a Experiencing Field Study and Community Service In Indonesia. Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) in Indonesia is a earning activities where students utilize their own knowledge and skills in  society to benefit society. This programme is an effort for UTM students to contribute to the community in coordination with the trademark of UTM, “In the Name of God for Mankind”. This programme is a platform for UTM students to learn how education system in Indonesia implements Community Services Learning also known as Real Work Lecture or “Kuliah Kerja Nyata'' (KKN) in Indonesia. This programme will serve as a catalyst enabling programme continuity between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor, Malaysia and Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (UMP), Jawa Tengah, Indonesia.

The Graduate Attribute(s)

The program aims to connect higher education with the needs of the community. By engaging in KKN, students are expected to understand more deeply the real conditions of the community, understand the various problems faced, and find solutions in accordance with their field of study. In addition, KKN also aims to increase students' social awareness and responsibility, as well as forming leadership character and independence in carrying out community service tasks.

There are three elements contained in the real work study activities namely, education, research, and community service, namely:

  1. As an educational activity, through real work lectures students are are introduced directly to society and its problems as well as to inter-sectoral or interdisciplinary ways of working. with inter-sectoral or interdisciplinary ways of working.
  2. In relation to research, the real work lecture activity is a an effort to involve students to examine and formulate complex problems, examine complex problems, examine the potentials and weaknesses in society and find alternative solutions.
  3. As a community service activity, through real work activities students practice science, technology and real work students practice science, technology and art to solve problems faced by the community and to solve problems faced by the community and overcome them fragmentatically.

Self–Reflection

The Experiencing KKN in Purwokerto (EKIP) program in Indonesia was a transformative experience that emphasized community engagement and service learning. The two-week immersion in Purwokerto, Indonesia, was part of the Kuliah Kerja Nyata initiative, allowing participants to witness the intersection of academic knowledge and real-world challenges. The program exposed participants to diverse issues, such as socioeconomic disparities and infrastructural deficiencies, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative thinking in addressing complex problems. EKIP's emphasis on active participation and hands-on learning allowed participants to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, fostering empathy and social responsibility. The program also accelerated personal growth, as community service tasks challenged participants to confront uncertainties and adapt to unfamiliar environments. EKIP reinforced the importance of continuous learning and collaboration in addressing social issues, leaving a lasting impact on the participant's journey as a student and citizen.
