SECI2143-09 PROBABILITY AND STATISTICAL DATA ANALYSIS

This Probability and Statistical Data Analysis introduces us to various forms of data. The students will be exposed to various forms of data and we have to analyze them and represent the data visually. We learned how to apply some statistical models in analysing data using R Software.

REFLECTIONS ON THIS COURSE

This course has helped me to gain a lot of information and knowledge which will help me in continuous learning.
Even though we cannot practice face-to-face learning, we still managed to do our best through online learning during
this pandemic. This Probability and Statistical Data Analysis has sharpened the basic knowledge of probability and statistics we had learned earlier in our secondary school or pre-university.

Besides that, I learned another programming language which is R language. RStudio is an Integrated Development Environment for R programming language for statistical computing and graphics.  It helps us a lot in our projects. The knowledge we gained from this course definitely will help us in the future.

A special thanks to Dr. Azurah Abu Samah for being my lecturer for this course this semester. The knowledge she shared with us during lectures and also her method to educate us is really great.

PROJECT 2 : INFERENTIAL STATISTICS

Inferential statistics is to construct inferences and descriptions of a population. For this project, the type of data used is secondary data which means that the data is gained by other organizations. There are several tests that we carried out in this project which are Hypothesis testing, Correlation, Regression and Chi-square test on independence.

We had some difficulties in carrying out this project. We didn't have a clear understanding of the tests that we have to carry out in our project. Then, we have to produce the results of the tests in RStudio using R programming language. So, my team had few discussion sessions to get a clear understanding of this project and to overcome our difficulties so that we can complete our project neatly.

As for the result of our project, we found that the average of miles per gallon of a car is almost 20 MPG and we believe that this value will increase as the technology develops. When the model year of a car is higher, its average MPG is higher too. It shows that the fuel efficiency of a higher Model Year car is higher.

PROJECT 1 : DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS

In this project, we have to do data collection and analysis based on descriptive statistics. Our topic was titled "WHICH IS BETTER?; ELECTRONIC CAR VS GAS CAR".

This project was a new experience for us because we have to analyse a big amount of data. Thi project helps me to understand better about descriptive statistics. We used Microsoft Excel and R Programming to analyze our data.

During this project, our group learned how to operate the R language and create graphics such as pie charts, bar charts, histograms, and boxplots. We’ve also gathered enough information to know that Malaysians knew that electric cars are better than gas cars.  In a nutshell, this project has given me the opportunity of implementing what I learnt into action.  I also gain moral values in life. Since I am working on this project together with my other members, I have to be considerate and giving my cooperation to the fullest in order to reach the perfection of this project.
