Project 1

In the course of probability and statistical data analysis, we are assigned to do a project on the topic of descriptive statistics. We are grouped by 4 members. Our group decided to do a case study on the topic of "Impacts of Colours On Emotions and Perceptions".

Colours take an important role in human daily life. We conduct this survey for the purpose of raising the awareness of university students to the importance of colours in our daily life. We must use the colour psychology wisely to make sure that colours bring advantages to us instead of disadvantages.

We conducted our survey through google forms in order to collect the data. The objectives of this survey are:

1. To investigate the effects of colour psychology on students’ daily life.
2. To identify how colours, affect to the students’ behaviours and perceptions
3. To investigate the effects of colour on students’ interest in learning activity based on the study environment and the learning materials.

First of all, I truly appreciate my lecturer in this course, Dr. Azurah who always helps us to solve the problem we met in this project. At the beginning of the project, our group has the problem to decide the topic of the project. I would like to thank our lecturer, Dr. Azurah for giving us tips and advice as well as guiding us in doing the project.

There are many things I learned in this project. Through this project, I learned a new programming language, R programming. I felt panic at first as I do not have any experience with this programming language. By doing research online, I solved the problems one by one and complete to generate the graphical data presentation by using R studio. As a computer science student, I felt fortunate as I can learn R programming language. 

Besides, I learned the importance of understanding the case study of our project. It is important for us to read the related articles, research, and journal to our case study. We need to study well about the background of our case study before conduct a survey. It is because we must have good knowledge of the topic that we want to focus on. It helps us to conduct a survey with the questions that achieve the objectives of our project.

Moreover, teamwork is one of the important things that I learned from this project. Without teamwork, we do not afford to complete the project in the time given. Through this project, we also met some problems in doing analysis of data and using the software of R studio. Instead of complaining and blaming, we discuss all the problems we met together even we have different ideas and opinions on something. Teamwork also improves the efficiency of our project. It makes me realize the importance of teamwork.

Lastly, I truly appreciate the efforts of my group members as all of them are willing to spend their own time for the meetings and discussion. We can submit the proposal on time as all of them done their responsibilities to complete their tasks. I felt lucky to meet such a responsible lecturer and group members like them.

After the survey, we found out that most of the UTM students aware of the importance of colours in our daily life although there are different colour preferences and different perspectives toward the colours selection. The results of the research reveal that there are different colour preferences among students that cause different implications for students' emotions and perceptions. We also found out that colours are one of the important factors that affect consumers' buying behaviors. In the learning environment, it should be used wisely as colours can be used to set the mood of learning.
