Project PSDA

PSDA Project 1 e-Portfolio

Project 1 Overview

In Project 1 of PSDA, we were given a task that is related to the chapter 3 - "Descriptive Statistics" of this course. Liew Wei Xian, Nicholas Pang Jia Chern, Eyu Si Xiong and I, Chua Kek An have form a team to find out if UTM students concern about their hygiene. The reason on why we choose this topic is because of the recent Covid-19 outbreak that happened around the world. After discussion, we had decided to give out Google Form as a survey to collect data from the students. We have limited our number of respondents to 50 students. From data we have collected from the 50 respondents, we come to a conclusion that almost all students take care of their hygiene and know how to take care of their personal hygiene.

Project 1 Reflection

From this project, I have learnt how to apply all the knowledge that we learn in this course in real life. I am glad that we have the opportunity to participate in this project as this is one of the few chances that we get to apply our knowledge in real life especially when we are still students. Furthermore, we also can learn the programming language used in data science which is R. This is a completely new knowledge to us as we are still year 1 students in computer science major. Although it takes time to learn how to use RStudio to plot graph using the data that we have collected, but it is a fun experience as we have been together to discuss about the problems encountered when doing the coding of R language. Last but not least, throughout the Project 1, we have discovered some flaws when we were collecting the data. One of it is that most of the respondents are from the Faculty of Engineering, thus the results collected in our project might be biased and might be different from the results when we collected the data from all students in UTM. Although we have done some mistake when doing this project, we are glad that we have gained experience and would avoid doing the same mistake again if we are required to conduct similar project again.
