Mini Report

Face is the most common visual entity and humans do actually have a special path in the brain to process and distinguish different faces. However, there are still limitations in the human brain especially in differentiating among similar faces. In this case, artificial intelligence has become an important tool to overcome human’s limitations. My justification of joining this webinar is to know more about face recognition and how it actually works using deep learning algorithms.

The graduate attributes which are focused in this webinar include scholarship and thinking skills. Basically, this webinar can provide a general idea on the technology of face recognition. It can become the beginning for the students to explore more and even involve themselves in the development of this technology.

In this webinar, Professor Hassan shared about visual computing and some of the projects that he worked on. He also talked about how powerful visual computing is and how face recognition can help the community in finding missing persons and identifying criminals. Furthermore, he also explained the concept of deep learning and the implementation of different algorithms such as Cosine Similarity, K-Nearest Neighboring and Meekaaku Algorithm in face recognition. Lastly, the live sharing ended with a Q&A session between Professor Hassan and the participants.

Self-reflection

The graduate attributes that I have developed through joining this webinar are scholarship and thinking skills. Since I was not so familiar with the concept of artificial intelligence and deep learning at that time, I did a lot of research to explore and generate more ideas on the face recognition technology. The webinar has inspired me and enhanced my interest in the field of computer science. Furthermore, it has improved my thinking skills and provided me with an insight into face recognition and how this particular technology can benefit the community.

From this webinar, I have gained new experience and knowledge that I most probably will not be able to obtain in my university courses. As a computer science student, I have understood how the theoretical knowledge that I usually learn from the lectures can be implemented in developing a new technology to help the community. Furthermore, I also realized the importance of artificial intelligence in solving human limitations and enhancing human life.

The challenge that I face is the limitation of knowledge and experience in artificial intelligence. I overcome this challenge by seeking more information about this topic from a variety of sources such as related websites and journal articles.
