Generally, pipeline transport is a system of pipes for the long-distance transportation of liquid or gas. It can be quite complicated to design and manufacture this kind of system since it requires to take various aspects including the right material, temperature and weather condition as well as piping stress and vibration analysis into consideration in order to produce a usable and safe piping system. My justification of joining this webinar is to know more about pipeline digital twin and how digital twin is utilized in system design.
This webinar is focused on thinking skills and enterprising skills. It can actually change our mindset in acquiring necessary knowledge and skills to cope with the new ways of working. The webinar also can also enhance our ability to use innovation methods in solving problems in the same way they utilize new form of technology to optimize the performance and increase the effectiveness of their pipeline system.
In this webinar, Mr. Ahmad has explained about the digital twin and the reasons for using this technology in the industry. He did also elaborate on the strategic objectives driving for future operation of the digital twin. Furthermore, he did a clear explanation on the pipeline digital twin throughout the asset life cycle from the feed stage to the operation stage. The sharing session ended with a Q&A session between Mr. Ahmad and the participants.
Self-reflection
The graduate attributes that I have developed through joining this webinar are thinking skills and enterprising skills. This webinar has enhanced my ability to think critically and act effectively in difficult situations. It has also emphasized the importance of adopting technology in order to work more efficiently.
From this webinar, I learned about a new form of technology that I did not know before, that is, the digital twin. The digital twin is actually a virtual representation of a system or asset that calculates system states and makes system information available through integrated models and data to provide decision support over its life cycle. It is able to bring a lot of benefits including improved performance, predictive capabilities, remote monitoring, accelerated production time and much more. In fact, I was quite amazed by the powerfulness of the digital twin since it has contributed to the development of different industries such as construction, manufacturing, automotive and healthcare. Anyway, it was indeed an informative sharing session and it had definitely increased my knowledge as well as broadened my vision.
However, the limitation of knowledge in this related technology has restricted me from gaining a deeper understanding of the pipeline digital twin. To overcome this weakness, I should always keep up with the evolution and the development of technologies.
