1) Six basic types of system unit is desktop system units, media center system units, notebook system units, netbook system units, tablet PC system nits and handheld computer system units. The difference between traditional and slate tablet PC is a tablet does not have a keyboard or mouse and are much lighter and smaller than a portable computer.
2) Electronic data is automated methods to process commercial data. Numerical representation (computers) Numerical data in a computer are written in basic units of storage made up of a fixed number of consecutive bits. Character encoding is used to represent a characters by encoding system.
3)System boards is or the motherboard is the main printed circuit board (PCB) found in general purpose microcomputers and other expandable systems. Sockets is a connection point for chips. Chips is a small piece of semiconducting material (usually silicon) on which an integrated circuit is embedded. Carrier packages is the package that a chip is mounted in. Slots is a connection point for specialized cards or circuit board and bus lines is a to transfer data between the insides of a computer or between multiple computers.
4) Microprocessors is an electronic component that is used by a computer to do its work. Word is the number of bits that can be processed at one time. Clock Speed is the processing speed or the number of times the CPU fetches and processes data or instructions in a second. There are three types of specialty processors which is coprocessors, smart cards, RFID tags.
5) Random Access Memory is the memory or information storage in a computer that is used to store running programs and data for the programs. Cache is a hardware or software component that stores data so that future requests for that data can be served faster. A (dual in-line memory module) DIMM is a module that contains one or several random access memory (RAM) chips on a small circuit board with pins that connect it to the computer motherboard. A virtual memory is An imaginary memory area supported by some operating systems. Read-Only-Memory is a type of computer memory and it keeps its contents even when the computer or device is turned off. Flash memory a solid-state chip that maintains stored data without any external power source.
6) Expansion slots by the definition is a place in a computer where an expansion card can be inserted. Expansion place used to give a computer additional capabilities, such as enhanced video performance via a graphics card. Five example of expansion cards is ATA, Bluetooth, EIDE, FireWire, IDE. Plug and Play used to describe devices that work with a computer system as soon as they are connected.
7) Bus lines is A bus line is a subsystem used to transfer data between the insides of a computer or between multiple computers. Three types of bus are the internal bus, external bus and the lines of pins or a bus.
8) Ports is a socket for connecting external devices. Three types of ports is a standard ports, specialized ports and legacy ports. Example of standard ports is VGA, USB, Fire Wire and Ethernet. Example of specialized ports is High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) and Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI). Example of Legacy ports is Keyboard and mouse and USB parallel.
9) A power supply unit (or PSU) converts mains AC to low-voltage regulated DC power for the internal components of a computer. AC adapter plug into a wall outlet and convert AC to a single DC voltage.
REFLECTION
In a nutshell, this chapter taught me about system unit and everything that is related to it for an instance what is system unit and its types. I just find out what microprocessor is and what its function in this chapter.
