CHAPTER 1: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, THE INTERNET AND YOU
1) Five parts of information system is people, procedures, software, hardware and data. people is the end user and the most important part of Information system. Procedures is the rules or guidelines to follow when using hardware and software. Software is step-by-step instructions that convert data into information. Hardware is the equipment that processes data into information and data is unprocessed facts.
2) The difference between system software and application software is system software is computer software designed to operate the computer hardware and to provide a platform for running application software. While application software is computer software designed to help user to perform specific tasks
3) Three kinds or types of system software programs is Windows 8.1, Intel driver page and BIOS setup utility.
4) The subtle difference between basic and and specialized software is basic application are widely used in every career. Example of basic application software is Word Processors, Spreadsheets, Database Management Systems and Presentation Graphics. Specialized application software is a software that is specially designed for an individual or company's needs.
5) Four types of computer is Supercomputer, Mainframe Computer, Minicomputer and Microcomputer. Six types of microcomputer is desktop computer, tablet/PC, media center, notebook, netbook and handheld computer.
6) System unit is the main part of the computer, it includes motherboard, RAM, CPU and other components. Input is keyboard and mouse while output is printer and monitor. There are three types of secondary storage which is Hard disk, Solid-state storage and optical disk. Communication devices such as modems provide microcomputers with the ability to communicate with other computer systems.
7) Data is unprocessed facts. Document files is created by the word processors. Worksheet files is created by electronic spreadsheets to analyze things like budgets and to predict sales. Database file is created by database management programs to contain highly structured and organized data. Presentation file is created by presentation graphics programs to prepare presentation materials.
8) Computer connectivity is the sharing of information. Wireless communication has a widespread use these days. Cloud computing is it uses the internet and the web to shift many computer activities from a user's computer to the computers on the internet.
REFLECTION
This chapter teach a lot about Information System in general including all the details in IT that can be use if we work in IT department. This chapter really paints the picture of what IT is really is and the topic of all Information System is summarised in this chapter.
