Week 10 is finally arrived. After all the lectures and the assignment that I did, it is time for the competition month. We were assignment to different department. As such, there are 4 major department which is

1.Structure and Material

2.Geotechnic

3.Hydraulic and Hydrology

4. Environmental

I was assigned to the Geotechnic department. Me and my new teammates will face a new challenge where our teamwork and enthusiasm will be tested. Leadership and generating new ideas also important in this competition. I hope that I will pass this competition with excellent results.

SOIL MECHANICS

Its been a long time since I last connect to this portfolio. Before the mid-semester holiday, I already take the Soil mechanics test 1. It was tough and I barely make it out. Most of us were in despair and vain as we cant answer most of the question. This test taught me that I need to study more not just for this subject but for others too. There is a lot more I need to learn from this Faculty.

CIVIL ENGINEERING FUNDAMENTAL

In this week, I learnt about Environmental Engineering.Environmental engineers use the principles of engineering, soil science, biology, and chemistry to develop solutions to environmental problems. They are involved in efforts to improve recycling, waste disposal, public health, and water and air pollution control. They are the ones who are responsible to save our mother-nature and give the awareness to mankind on protecting our dying mother-nature.

SOIL MECHANICS

In this week I learnt about Soil Compaction. It is about how to make a good base and foundation before a construction of building happens. I also learnt that soil mechanics are one of the branch subject of Geo-Technic Engineering. Geo-Technic engineers are responsible in making the foundation of a building. they also responsible in making the tunnels and others underground construction. They are the unsung heroes of a building construction. Without a proper foundation made by them, the building may collapsed in just a few second and kills thousands yet million of people. 

SOIL,SOIL,SOIL

It been said by my lecturer a few times.She said and always reminds us that solid is not soil but in soil there is solid.I didn't knew anything about soil until I learnt about this subject.She is a fun and dedicated lecturer that willing to teach all her students about soil,about Earth and about environment.

The basic of building structures that constructed by engineer need a fine base.To find the most suitable and fine, we need to understand the soil. In this course I've learnt that not all soil is suitable for building bases. If they did build on the wrong base, the building may collapsed in few moths after build and could cause a lot of fatalities.

Soil is made out of 3 component which is air,water and solid. There are also grade for each type of soil. Certain calculation and laboratory test need to be made for grading the soil sample given.

I was assigned to do a reflection upon this course, and here is what I thought about this course.At first I thought that by taking civil engineer degree was the worst mistake I've made.It turn out to be wrong especially when I came to this lecture where it introduce me what is the truly meaning of becoming a civil engineer. I have become quite fond with this course and also with the dedicated lecturers that willing to give all their knowledge to everyone. Civil engineering is one of the oldest department in Engineering.It can be recorded back in time when the first man put log between a river to cross over it.

I realized that  this Civil Engineering Fundamental helps me a lot about what the engineers in this world have build for us. Without them, our civilization couldn't be this modern and keep evolving from time to time. I believe that in the near future that this field could contribute more to our beloved country to become a country that full of advanced technology and eco -friendly
