                       Industrial Visit 2: ADAX 

                                            Introduction and Details of the visits

        On 26 of October 2018, the student from subject SCSP1013 section 2  & 3 went to ADAX. ADAX is located at Level 7, Tower B, Vertical Business Suites Avenue 3, Kuala Lumpur. A total of 64 students attended the industrial visit to ADAX. The talk on ADAX started at 9:00 am and finished approximately at 1 0’clock. This visit was especially for the first year of Data Engineering students. We went  there by the UTM bus; bus 1 for the section 2  students and bus 2 for the section 3 students. There were two lecturers in charge of bringing all the students, Dr. Aryati Bakri and Dr. Sharin Hazlin. Both are the lecturers of subject SCSP1013 Technology and Information Systems.

    There were 4 speakers whom giving  the talk during our visiting at ADAX. The speakers were Mr. Mohammad Nazir, Mdm. Josephine, Mr. Gan Chun How and Dr. Mark Chia. All of them were explained about  the ADAX or the long name, ASEAN Data Analytics Exchange specifically and very well.
   ADAX is the one of the MDEC’s (Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation)  initiative to assure business, government, academia and professionals to swiftly embrace the Data analytics as a tool to empower decision making and innovation.  The definitve Data Analytic for knowledge, information , resources and collaboration is one of the ADAX want to pursue among the ASEAN area.

ADAX concentrates  on four pillars to ensure  their initiatives:

*Training & Education – For students & working professionals to develop cutting-edge, innovative data analytics and entrepreneurship skills in physical and virtual classrooms.

*Best Practices – Provide knowledge to start-ups and organizations on data analytics.

Industry Development – Engage with businesses and educational institutions to nurture and harness analytics through various initiatives.

*Advocacy – Partnering with industry players to grow the big data and analytics ecosystem.

In collaboration with industry leaders and education providers, ADAX offers Massive Open Online Courses, Job Matching, Shared Training & Tech Labs, organise Hackathons, provide accelerator programme and facilitate industry Collaboration

Organisation structure

ADAX is the  initiative of MDEC to establish the ecosystem,  design the  demanding talent pool in the Big Data Analytics Category and to advance the partnership between the businesses, start-ups, academia and professionals so the Data Analytics becomes the essential business innovation and decision making part. ADAX firstly introduced during MSC Malaysia implementation Council Meeting  back in October  2015. It was introduced as a regional platform that carries together innovative talent development models and showcasesthe up-to-date the technology of BDA. The CEO of ADAX is Sharala Axryd and she also the Founder of The Center  of Applied Data Science.

Achievements

      One of the ADAX’s partnership, Statistical Analytic System (SAS) Malaysia  breaks the record with astonishing achievements in 2017. SAS Malaysia has recorded more than 170% high in certificates awarded from  2016 and  Malaysia placed  in top 15 of the world because of that.The first national department in the world to have SAS certified data scientists is the Department of Statistics Malaysia, making up to 9 individuals and the largest. This was announced not too long at SAS Training Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

     ADAX looking for healthy grow in 2018 as they were surpassed their target in 2017.

At least 30%  of  data professionals delivered has ADAX contributed. For 2018, they focus will be the implementation  and  adoption year of data analytics in business and SMEs. This goes hand in hand with government’ vision to develop the National AI framework which is an expansion from the National BDA framework.

                                                               DataCamp for classroom

What is “DataCamp for classroom” ? Actually, it is a programme that need lecturers to register a 6-months-access class which minimum of 10 students per class. Otherwise, students also can attend the courses provided by the official website. The topics given are R programming, Python Programming, Probability&Statistics, Data Visualization and other 191 courses.

There are some benefits can be gained if you join this classroom. One of the benefits is you can get a statement of accomplishment after you complete the course. Next, you also access fully to entire course curriculum. Lecturer may create leader boards and private discussion forum in order to encourage students to learn and compete with each others.

Here are the steps of how to sign up or login the DataCamp for classroom. First, you have to go to www.datacamp.com and create an account or just click “Sign in” if you already have an account. Next, go to www.datacamp.com/groups/education and click “Sign Up Your Class”, then fill in the form and submit. Please wait for email confirmation from DataCamp with the link to the approved academic group. After completing the course, you will get a statement of accomplishment.

Premier Digital Tech IHLs

In 2017, Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and MDEC awarded and recognized 8 Premier Digital Tech Universities and also 5 Preferred Digital Tech Polytechnics as top institutions of higher learning that can deliver first-class theoretical and practical training.^[1] UTM as one of the Premier Digital Tech Universities.

The objectives of the Premier Digital Tech IHLs Ecosystem are to create sustainable talent pipeline for industry, as a recognition for future digital talents, strengthen awareness of and confidence in Digital Tech related career, become a benchmark to be emulated by other institutions.

One of the key elements under the Premier Digital Tech Universities ambition is to determine talented and qualified students to be given the priority access to pursue studies in digital tech related courses in the Premier. Premier Digital Tech University has “Undergraduate Development Program”, “Influence Development Program(IDP)”, “Digital Expert Panel(DXP), “Digital Career Centers (DCC)” and also as a green lane which preferred enrolment for talents.

Through the Undergraduates Immersion Programme, students can gain soft-skills and also specialization of the related field, then students can get a certificate and a chance of industry immersion which has internship provided and employment.

Digital Economy

The digital economy usually refers to a huge range of economic activities that use digitized information and knowledge as main factors of production. As the move from the third industrial revolution to the fourth industrial revolution, digital economy grows due to its reliance on internet connectivity.

The types of business discussed include several kinds of e-commerce, cloud computing, app stores, online advertising, participative networked platforms, high speed trading and also online payment services. People also can gain money through sharing skills or properties with others.

               There are some obstacles of promoting digital economy in Malaysia. First, there is shortage in human resources and financial capital. Next, the education system and workforce training programs in our country are not yet preparing workers with the appropriate skills for the digital economy. People still continued reliance on cash for transactions and weak professional networks among digital entrepreneurs.

 #mydigitalmaker is a linkage between public and private academia initiative in order to transform Malaysian youth from digital users to producers in the digital economy. This includes some skills such as coding, 3D printing, robotics, embedded programming and data analytic. All of them will eventually help to strengthen problem solving and creativity among our future generation.

Digital Maker Hubs are multipurpose research rooms that enable digital making. It is also a centre for networks of educators, students and industry experts to converge. This initiative of connecting key players aims to encourage the sharing of resources, collaboration and reaching out to everyone in effective ways.

         From the visit ,that can be conclude is ADAX give a lot of opportunities to improve the life and between bussiness and computing. I will improving by find the mentor that  will advocate me and help to advance for what should to do. I can always meet my mentor to improve my skill.Form that the mentor know My strength and weakness. After that I must read motivational book. An inspirational book can be incredibly powerful and can act like an executive coach to motivate me, teach  how to move forward, and help to get that much closer to what  I consider success. The most interest program offer by MDEC is digital maker because its involve transform of Malaysian youth from being users of digital technology to digital producers.After that,digital maker helps to grow a community of digital creators who are passionate in embracing a culture of innovation and co-creation to solve real-world problems.
