After sharing session, he selected and answered some questions sent by students from the comments section.
Graduate Attributes
The graduate attributes that this event focused on were:
- Communication Skills: Communication skills were one of the graduate attributes the speaker has focused on because we need better communication skills for a a happy work environment and better outcome of life.
- Scholarship: They have focused on scholarship to give us the idea on seeking and managing relevant information from various sources, developing an inquisitive mind in our future work life, and having a "can-do" attitude.
- Leadership and Teamwork Skills: The speaker shared that leadership and teamwork may be applied directly or indirectly in work life, and we need to continue to practice having good leadership ability so that the team can work together to achieve a unified result.
- Adaptability: Adaptability was also one of the topics touched during the session for us to know that we must have the ability to work effectively under pressure because if we are not able to work effectively under pressure, we will be eliminated as we cannot do the job competently.
- Global Citizens: The speaker talked about Global Citizens too because we need to stay on top of current world issues to avoid being derailed from the world during work time.
Self Reflection
Through this activity, I could learn about some valuable characteristics of university graduates. I am glad to have had the opportunity to participate in this event organized by the Faculty of Engineering, UTM Johor Bahru (Student Virtual Hangout Zone). I have a better understanding and mindset for what skills I need to improve to enhance my resume and have a better career environment after attending this event. The speaker gave us an idea on how to maintain the learning process in our life. The speaker is a highly motivative and positive person. He mainly focused on one important thing, which is the "Can-Do" attitude. There is always a way to make the impossible, possible. When we try something for the first time, we don't know how to do it clearly at first, but once we do it, we learn how to do it. Everything is learned from the unknown, but when we start learning, we can turn the unknown into knowledge. We have to look at it from a different perspective, then we can learn something from it. I aspire to be as highly motivative and strong minded as the speaker when the time comes.
