Volunteer Work at @mart Kempas

An event was held by @mart Kempas to give out schooling utilities to families in need, so we as students of UHAS 1172 section 34 (Dinamika Malaysia) gave help in preparing and running the event. We prepared the tools and set up the stage the night before the event, and we also helped in the registration counters, food distribution, PA system and photography. My classmate Firdaus and I were assigned as photographers of the event. After the event, we sent the pictures we took to the master of ceremony Mr. Muhannad via Telegram. We had a lot of fun during the event. Not only that, our dear lecturer Mr. Hassan bin Hushin came to witness and support us, and that made us even happier and more confident in carrying out our respective jobs. After the event, we helped to clear things up. Then, Mr Hassan treated us lunch at a food arcade in the mart. We had the time of our lives chatting and interacting with our very friendly and approachable lecturer. It was truly an honour to be his student and also to serve the society as volunteers!

Visit to Institute of High Voltage and High Current (IVAT)

On 11 November 2018, lecturer of SKEE 1012 section 06, Mr. Zulkarnain Noorden led our visit to the Institute of High Voltage and High Current (IVAT) UTM, which is labelled as block P06, School of Electrical Engineering (SKE). We were required to write a reflective report based on this visit.

Mr. Zulkarnain described the lab as the hottest lab in UTM and also the largest lab in Malaysia universities. The institute is used for numerous purposes, mainly to handle high voltage test and calibration works. First of all, we were shown a video that introduces IVAT briefly and another video about dangers of handling high voltage, namely voltage above 1000V or 1kV.

Furthermore, a test is demonstrated to all of us, which is a test to obtain the threshold voltage of a particular insulator material. The threshold voltage obtained was 40kV. It was truly fantastic to witness the test being conducted because I have never seen a man-made electric arc in my life.

Group Activity (Graduate Success Attributes)

By using newspapers, we were required to build a building in groups divided by the lecturer. The group that built the tallest building was the winner. Through this activity, we were challenged in terms of teamwork, creativity, leadership, communication and critical thinking skills. I learnt that these skills are absolutely vital as I progress on my journey towards being an engineer. Besides, I got to know my classmates better during this activity. All in all, we had a lot of fun in this lecture.

Electrical Circuit Analysis - Group Assignment

Together with my other 3 group members, we built a simple circuit based on a circuit drawn and given to our group. Our task was to build everything correctly and obtain the currents and voltages across each resistor by measuring using a multimeter. The closer the measurements are to the calculated (theoretical) values, the better it is. After that, during our next upcoming class, we will have to demonstrate our circuit and the measurements as well as the calculations to our other course mates. Hopefully it will be successful.
