LIYANA ATHIRA BINTI ROSLAN's Reflection
Since 18th March 2020, Malaysian is living in a new normal life because of the Covid-19 pandemic. We have to follow the rules and regulations during this movement control order (MCO). Everyone started to work from home and open & distance learning or known as the online class to keep social distancing. As a student, I have to admit that these online classes are a bit tiring compared to the face-to-face classes. It took a lot of energy for me to focus on my assignments, quizzes and tests since we do not have the final exam for this semester. But, it is not bad at all. There are some benefits that I got from this ODL open & distance learning, such as editing a video and advance in some technologies. For me, I have to be smart in managing my time to do the assignments given by lecturers so that I can still do other activities at home to release the stress.
Cornerstone Convergence For Future Ready Curriculum Symposium
Last semester, I took Manufacturing as one of my first semester subjects. We need to think and create a household product for our final assignment and present it to the class what our product is. After some discussion with my teammates, we decided to do a Can Opener. So, within the 14 weeks of learning, we did a lot of things to make it a success. We planned, be as creative as we can, be helpful, responsible for our task and be smart to manage time while doing the project. After all the hardship within the 14 weeks its time for the presentation day. Me, Mardhiyah and Atikah were the presenter. We were presenting our Can Opener projects to the judges, lecturers and our friends on that day. We explained how to do it, what materials to use and how much the price for a piece of it. Finally, we were announced as the winner of the day and we won RM250 and a certificate as the prize. The lesson that I learned from this project is we must be a good teammate and helpful for each other. Since this project was a group project, we have to be disciplined and responsible in anything we do because anything we do can affect the team's reputation.
Date: 28th September 2019
Venue: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Skudai.
Organizer: School of Chemical and Energy Engineering
During my first semester in UTM, my friends and I took part in a charity run that was held by the School of Chemical and Energy Engineering on 28th of September 2019. This run has collaborated with Minda Johor the NGO and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). It was held at UTM Skudai. I applied for the 5 KM run because it is the shortest route they offered. My friends also joined the 5 KM run. It was the very first run that we joined since our day one in UTM as a degree students. We really enjoyed the run because we were able to look at other colleges and faculties in UTM areas such as Kolej Datin Sri Endon, Kolej Tun Hussein Onn, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Chemical and Energy and also the UTM Lake. As a first-year student, we did not know much about UTM. So, by joining this Run we were able to know more about UTM and we are proud to be UTM students.
Reflection regarding the talk entitled: OPPORTUNITIES and STRATEGIES in CRISIS
From the Program of Captain Cyrano Talk (A Perspective of a Pilot Survivor of an Aviation Disaster), I would say that it was a sad incident that happened to Captain Cyrano and team on 31st October 2000. The accident involved flight SQ006/SIA006 from Singapore Changi Airport to Los Angeles International Airport via Taiwan. Captain Cyrano was blamed as the murderer and took 10 years leave as a pilot. During the leave, he explored and worked in many industries such as food industry, hospitality (hotel), worked as an aviation consultant and taught aviation, education (still lecturing), networking and embracing new experiences. He took these leave-in positive ways to explored in different kinds of industries and also to gain new knowledge. As for crisis management, it has three stages which are the first PRE-CRISIS to develop and practice ways to respond to various crisis scenarios. Second, CRISIS RESPONSE to execute the organization’s crisis response team and lastly POST-CRISIS to review, adjust and update response plan for the future. Also, the company itself was very alert with the situation and provided them with medical cares and communicate with the workers and the public. For the aftermath period, Captain Cyrano has successfully overcome the trauma because his family and co-workers had become a strong support system for him.
