The ASEAN Data Science Explorers (ASEAN DSE) 2021 National Finals in Malaysia, organized by the ASEAN Foundation, played a pivotal role in empowering youth across the region. The competition, endorsed by the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Youth and ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Education, focused on promoting ASEAN awareness and addressing socio-economic issues through data-driven proposals aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Participants, aged 15 to 30, formed teams of two from the same ASEAN country, undertaking full-time education. Utilizing SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), they developed data analytics storyboards tackling issues within the six selected SDGs. The competition not only emphasized data analytics skills but also nurtured critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills.
The multi-step process involved eligibility confirmation, registration, SAC account allocation, storyboard submission, and eventual national finals presentation. Storyboards were assessed based on set criteria, ensuring compliance with requirements.
This initiative reflects the ASEAN Foundation's commitment to fostering a data-savvy generation, encouraging collaborative solutions, and contributing to the achievement of UN-SDGs in the ASEAN region.
