Week 6: Reflection
On 15th November 2022, I attended Youth Development class online. Mr Rashid assigned a group task to us. In this assessment, we should prepare a slide and present the icon in different aspects or fields that inspired youth generations. For example, sports, volunteerism, politics, entrepreneurship and entertainment. We are divided into five groups and each group includes seven members to collaborate and conduct the group assessment. I was Group Sport with Irdina Hani, Athirah Ayuni, Thivesh Kumar, Shafin Alam, Nur Ain and Aizatul Nur Hidayah.
After the synchronous class session, we carried out the discussion in the group chat. Irdina suggested Cheah Liek Hou, a para-badminton player as the icon of our presentation. All members agreed with her opinion with none of the objections. Then, we divided the task into several parts so that each of us can be responsible for at least one part. The subtitles that we assigned in our slide are profile, the beginning of career, achievement, challenges, things that we can learn, how the youth generation is inspired and what actually we can get from the icon’s journey. We spent about one week completing our own part and combine every single part to produce an attractive slide as our presentation source.
After a week, on 29th November 2022, we went back to have a face-to-face class. This class was focused on the presentation of the five different groups as Mr Rashid had informed us in advance. My group and I were the first group to present in front of the class. We shared the journey and characteristics of Cheah Liek Hou that we had searched for from different sources.
After that, we had very interesting presentation and sharing from the other four groups. The topic that attracted me the most is Volunteerism and Entertainment. These groups had fully prepared their presentation and the slides were very fascinating. One of the most memorable points for me throughout the whole session of the group presentation was the video of the volunteer, Heliza Helmi who had distributed necessities to victims of the ongoing civil war in Syria. The video that the group shared during their presentation touched me by its scene of the war site. Besides, Group Entertainment was also attracting my attention a lot during their presentation. The introduction of the youth icon, Yuna inspired me because of her charming characteristics such as courage, talent and outstanding traits.
By executing this assessment, I gained more experience in team working and presentation skills. I also had more understanding of the importance of youth development and what good characteristics we can learn from the youth icon even though they may be from different fields. I hope I can improve my skills through the class sessions and become a better youth by looking up to my youth icon.
