Week 3: Reflection
RSS
On 1st November 2022, I attended the third week of the class for Youth Development. It was the first time I attend the physical class for this course. Since some of us were unfamiliar with each other, Mr Rashid asked us to have an “ice-breaking session” in which we had to introduce ourselves briefly. At that time, I felt dazed because I am not enough knowing myself and do not know what is the skills that I have. I hope to explore my potential skills after finishing this semester.
After the introduction session, Mr Rashid briefed us about what is actually Youth Development wants to deliver to us. As youth, we are the future of tomorrow. Youth act as the agents of social change, economic development and progress. In this stage of our lives, we build many social relationships and develop a personality that defines us as a new generation.
During the class, Mr Rashid informed us about the assessment that we have to complete in this course. For example, individual learning portfolio, reflection on extra-curricular activities, peer assessment and group project report. Besides, there are also some activities that we will carry out during this semester. The main program is the Service Learning Malaysia - University for Society (SULAM) which is a learning method focused towards providing students with the opportunity to contribute knowledge, skills and competencies in their field towards solving problems or issues within communities. For this year, we will have a service-learning at Benut, Johor.
Then, Mr Rashid gave us the instructions to set up the committee and assign roles or jobs for every member. Our class representatives had taken charge of the session. We spent about 30 minutes selecting the positions for the organisation project such as chairman, assistant chairman, secretary, treasurer, technical & logistics, graphic & social media, public relations and protocol.
Before the end of class, we had some information about our project from Mr Rashid. There are needs or issues from different aspects including economic activities, social activities, cultures and others. We also need to synchronize the knowledge transferred, continuous programs, government agencies and industry agencies.
Before this class, I was new to this course and only knew slightly about Youth Development. After attending the week 3 class, I improved my understanding of this course and know more about what I will and have to do for the whole semester. I hope that all the programs and activities will be conducted successfully and I am very much looking forward to it. I will cherish every chance in the class and attend as many programs as I can this semester.
Week 6: Reflection
RSS
On 15th November 2022, I attended Youth Development class online. Mr Rashid assigned a group task to us. In this assessment, we should prepare a slide and present the icon in different aspects or fields that inspired youth generations. For example, sports, volunteerism, politics, entrepreneurship and entertainment. We are divided into five groups and each group includes seven members to collaborate and conduct the group assessment. I was Group Sport with Irdina Hani, Athirah Ayuni, Thivesh Kumar, Shafin Alam, Nur Ain and Aizatul Nur Hidayah.
After the synchronous class session, we carried out the discussion in the group chat. Irdina suggested Cheah Liek Hou, a para-badminton player as the icon of our presentation. All members agreed with her opinion with none of the objections. Then, we divided the task into several parts so that each of us can be responsible for at least one part. The subtitles that we assigned in our slide are profile, the beginning of career, achievement, challenges, things that we can learn, how the youth generation is inspired and what actually we can get from the icon’s journey. We spent about one week completing our own part and combine every single part to produce an attractive slide as our presentation source.
After a week, on 29th November 2022, we went back to have a face-to-face class. This class was focused on the presentation of the five different groups as Mr Rashid had informed us in advance. My group and I were the first group to present in front of the class. We shared the journey and characteristics of Cheah Liek Hou that we had searched for from different sources.
After that, we had very interesting presentation and sharing from the other four groups. The topic that attracted me the most is Volunteerism and Entertainment. These groups had fully prepared their presentation and the slides were very fascinating. One of the most memorable points for me throughout the whole session of the group presentation was the video of the volunteer, Heliza Helmi who had distributed necessities to victims of the ongoing civil war in Syria. The video that the group shared during their presentation touched me by its scene of the war site. Besides, Group Entertainment was also attracting my attention a lot during their presentation. The introduction of the youth icon, Yuna inspired me because of her charming characteristics such as courage, talent and outstanding traits.
By executing this assessment, I gained more experience in team working and presentation skills. I also had more understanding of the importance of youth development and what good characteristics we can learn from the youth icon even though they may be from different fields. I hope I can improve my skills through the class sessions and become a better youth by looking up to my youth icon.

Mini Report
On 26th October 2022, I participated in a talk which was organized by Townhall JPMPP. The theme of the talk was “PMPP: Mahasiswa, Pemimpin, dan Sistem” and it was about the election of new Students Representative Councils. In this program, JPMPP had in charge of running the Student Representative Council Election. They have to make sure UTM Students Representative Councils are conducting the program with fairness and efficient. At the end of the program, I had been told about the upcoming election day will be held on 18th and 19th of January 2023. The talk has graduate attributes which is leadership and teamworking skills. They enhanced the skills by focusing on the points such as student’s motivation and confidence. It had improved our skills with the inner drive to aim high, persevere and achieve goals. Through this program, I can see that JMPP had showed us about their committee who had complete their job scope with a lot of responsibility so that the election can run smoothly.
Self Reflection
The impact of this program on the development of the student’s graduate attributes is that all of us should have the responsibility to vote for the election of the Student Representative Council while they also be responsible with their job and tasks. After taking part in this talk, I had learned about the election is one of the most effective indirect democracy method as it can encourage us to vote for their representatives who will then pass laws on their behalf. Other than that, one of the most impressing thing during the program is that all of them have contribution and ability to handle the election which was held once a year. I am very excited to cast my vote during the election day on 18th and 19th of January next year.

By listening to this talk, I had gained a lot of extra knowledge about the Holographic Telepresence Applications which had helped me to improve my deep thinking skills. In this program, Dr. Ajune also shared with us about the NASA Holosports which is about the first humans from earth to space. Besides, there are also some challenges in bringing Holographic Telepresence.
Self Reflection
The impact of this talk on the development of the students’ Graduate Attributes is that I have a chance to enhance my thinking skills by improve my understanding about the research of Holographic Telepresence Applications. This program brought to me some advantages such as it helped me to broad my knowledge to an unfamiliar area. I can gain deeper knowledge by listening to the contents during the talk. However, there are still some point of words that were unfamiliar to me. Therefore, I had to do some research about the topic to make sure I am mostly understanding all of the contents discussed during the talk.

Mini Report
On 4th January 2023, I had joined Program Bicara Karya which its theme is “Catatan Zunita di Jepun”. The program had talked about a writer named Zunita Ramli who is living in Japan for 6 years since 2016 and recently live in Niigata, Japan. Besides being a writer, she is also an entrepreneur and a founder of Tokyo organic. From this talk, I can learn the graduate attribute such as adaptability. Pn. Zunita had graduated as a Master of Business Administration in International University of Japan. Other than that, she is also an influencer who likes to share what she met in Japan on social media such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Recently, she published a book named “Catatan Zunita di Jepun” which is a complication of article about Japan. From her sharing, I felt miserable as she has adaptability to live her own style in foreign.
Self Reflection
The impact of this activity on the development of the students’ Graduate Attributes is that I had learned about the cultural differences between Malaysia and Japan. For example, Japan is a country with common disasters such as earthquakes. Pn. Zunita also shared with us some tips to face these disasters in Japan for surviving. As a Malaysian who is living in a peaceful place without much disasters, I found that it requires a lot of adaptability skills for me to accommodate with the unfamiliar culture in Japan. After attending this program, I had renewed and broadened my horizon of Japan which I have not been there before. Furthermore, it is quite hard to imagine her life in Japan but it also makes me feel more curious and interested to be there. I wish to improve my adaptability skills and have the opportunity to visit Japan and adapt the culture there.
