Week 3: Reflection
On 1st November 2022, I attended the third week of the class for Youth Development. It was the first time I attend the physical class for this course. Since some of us were unfamiliar with each other, Mr Rashid asked us to have an “ice-breaking session” in which we had to introduce ourselves briefly. At that time, I felt dazed because I am not enough knowing myself and do not know what is the skills that I have. I hope to explore my potential skills after finishing this semester.
After the introduction session, Mr Rashid briefed us about what is actually Youth Development wants to deliver to us. As youth, we are the future of tomorrow. Youth act as the agents of social change, economic development and progress. In this stage of our lives, we build many social relationships and develop a personality that defines us as a new generation.
During the class, Mr Rashid informed us about the assessment that we have to complete in this course. For example, individual learning portfolio, reflection on extra-curricular activities, peer assessment and group project report. Besides, there are also some activities that we will carry out during this semester. The main program is the Service Learning Malaysia - University for Society (SULAM) which is a learning method focused towards providing students with the opportunity to contribute knowledge, skills and competencies in their field towards solving problems or issues within communities. For this year, we will have a service-learning at Benut, Johor.
Then, Mr Rashid gave us the instructions to set up the committee and assign roles or jobs for every member. Our class representatives had taken charge of the session. We spent about 30 minutes selecting the positions for the organisation project such as chairman, assistant chairman, secretary, treasurer, technical & logistics, graphic & social media, public relations and protocol.
Before the end of class, we had some information about our project from Mr Rashid. There are needs or issues from different aspects including economic activities, social activities, cultures and others. We also need to synchronize the knowledge transferred, continuous programs, government agencies and industry agencies.
Before this class, I was new to this course and only knew slightly about Youth Development. After attending the week 3 class, I improved my understanding of this course and know more about what I will and have to do for the whole semester. I hope that all the programs and activities will be conducted successfully and I am very much looking forward to it. I will cherish every chance in the class and attend as many programs as I can this semester.
