Global Online Workforce (GLOW)

On 24 September 2018 Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation or known as MDEC had given a talk in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Skudai, Johor, Malaysia about Global Online Workforce or better know as GLOW. Mr. Muhammad Ihsanuddin Bin Jamhari as the speaker of the talk.

Global Online Workforce is a program that have been organized by Malaysia Digital Economy (MDEC), a government agency under Ministry of Communication and Multimedia Malaysia (KKMM). GLOW is program to help Malaysians to support on crowd sourcing platform to generate digital income consistently all over the globe. Crowd sourcing is digital revenue method in which work is offered and implemented digitally in the global platform. The purpose of Global Online Workforce (GLOW) program is being held is because the government want to provide an alternative source of income for Malaysia citizen through online platforms. It is also is to create a community of high quality workers among the Malaysians and it also want to evolve a support program for Malaysian freelancer to remain driven, committed and motivated in earning digital income through crowd sourcing. The benefits that the Malaysian gain from this program is they will know better about how to create an excellent profile and also the right techniques to attract the employer to hire them. People will also know how the freelancer actually works. This program also provides a job opportunity by teaching the right techniques for the business and also how to make a simple design for their profile and resume. Global Online Workforce (GLOW) also teach on how to sell and use their skills accordingly. The benefits from being a freelancer is they had many experienced as they work from various company or culture all around the world. They know how the certain company works and how to tackle it. The employer also tend to hire a freelancer is because they are creative and have different perspective as they worked for many other employer. The blending of ideas and perspective from various places and culture is the best combination for innovation and creativity that every employer wants. The employers also tend to hire a freelancer is because their ability in other language and foreign knowledge. Global business company needs an employee who can speak other language fluently and know how the market works and wants. The best option is to hire someone that rich with experienced from the market in which they want to conduct their business so that they know they are getting a person or employee who will be able to communicate effectively and understand the business culture. All of that can be accomplish by this program that will teach Malaysian how to use the right skills and techniques.

There are three types of program offered by Global Online Workforce (GLOW) to the Malaysians. There are two free programs and one paid program but do not worry the paid program is totally affordable for Malaysians compared to the skills that will be given by the coaches. The first program is GLOW @ HLI’s. The one who needs to be involved in this program are future graduates from faculty Science Computer, Information Technology, Multimedia and Communication, Faculty of Language and Linguistic, Business Management and also Faculty of education based on the set of digital worker skills that is required in the global digital revenue platform. Duration of training as an elective subject is 1 semester. Next is Fast Track Program which only takes 2 days with personal coaching and 10 days of online monitoring by the coach. Freelancer, qualified graduates, privates employee, graduates student that does not involve in GLOW @ HLI’s Program, Housewife and many more are suitable for this types of program offered. The befits from this 2 program are individual mentor sessions and online monitoring by coaches, a member of Malaysia Freelancer Association also known as MAFA and get to involve with the activities offered by MAFA. The last program offered is HRDF Program. This program is more suitable for employees that have register under human resource development, freelancer and also universities graduates or qualified retirees and skilled as digital workers. In this program GLOW have offer two package which is 12 days package ( 3 days of mentoring ) and 14 days mentoring (5 days of mentoring). The befits from this two package are full time incentive training with experienced mentor. Group mentor sessions, individual mentor sessions, a member of Malaysia Freelancer Association also known as MAFA and get to involve with the activities offered by MAFA. To learn more about this package you can refer to glowmalaysia.com.

Malaysia digital workforce(MDEC) ways to attract interest of Malaysian to join this program by doing seminar, talk, online marketing and also advertisement. In the talk they will talk about the benefits and what will they gain from it. The one who should be involve in this program are the that had experienced offline and face to face freelancer. Next is unemployed graduates to generates extra incomes to accommodate their self and a retrenched workers with the commitment to become crowd workers. A crowd workers or an experienced freelancers in global and local crowd sourcing also can join this program as the the global online workforce (GLOW) will provides them various types of new technique and skills and job opportunity. The individuals that had been registered in employment programs by the government agencies, ministries and the state level. The students of private and public universities also can join this program as they will help then in gaining experience and also to generate income. Freelancer also have a very flexible time to the job given as they can do anywhere and anytime or after the classes. A qualified and skilled housewives as a digital workers can join this program to help their beloved husband to generate extra domestic income. The main reason to join this program is basically because the opportunity provided by the to generate monthly digital income. Next, the opportunities to open a digital employment agency business globally and worldwide. By being a freelancer also will experience the flexibility of the job as they can do the task everywhere or anywhere they are as a freelancer does not have any fix place to the task. They also be able to wear the comfortable cloth and choose the best place to finish the task given by the employer. By doing that they will be able to gain a creative idea or project as there is no one that observe them while doing work. Last but not least, a freelancer will gain a digital income according to their ability and requirement.

First, this program has impacted Malaysian in terms of economy. Which is most of the Malaysians are able to generate income by simply becoming a freelancer. It can reduce the unemployed workers issues as now they can work as a freelancer and gain their own income to support themself and also their family. This program had inspired many employee that has low income to the other jobs such as freelancing. From freelancing, these employee are able to generate more incomes and also they will be able to gain as much experience as they are able to work for many other company and culture. From there, freelancers are able to gain more knowledge outside from their job scope. Next, when freelancer from Malaysia had done an excellent jobs for overseas company. They will get the credit and of course Malaysia will gain some reputation from the companies. From this , people will belive that freelancer from Malaysia are able to provide them with an outstanding services and able to do the job properly. Therefore, the overseas company will tend to hired freelancer from Malaysia as they are reliable and skillful. Last but not least, the impact from freelancing to Malaysia is many other company from overseas will try to communicate with us and will try to run a joint company with Malaysia as Malaysia are known with their skillful and reliable employee and able to give them a good services and returns.

My reflection from this talk is the GLOW program is a very good program as it can influence many graduates and employee to start freelancing as it give so much benefits and knowledge, one of the benefits is of course it can improve financial problem, it also can help improvising communication skills as freelancing required to do so. Next, this talk and program is helpful to me as it gave so much information while researching for the task given. For example before this I did not know that this program exist and are able to help many other people with jobs issues including me. Thirdly, this program had finally open my eyes to plan what to do in the future after graduates. Lastly, this program also can expand knowledge on how to promote yourself better using a right technique and platform for future employment and give a good impact to the company.
