Mini Report
Jawatankuasa Mahasiswa Kolej Tun Dr Ismail (JKM) had organized a volunteering program, Love Mangrove and it is the collaboration between JKM and also Taman Negara Tanjung Piai. The purpose of this program to expose to the students about the importance of mangrove tree to our ecosystem. Mangrove swamps protect coastal areas from erosion, storm surge (especially during hurricanes), and tsunamis. The mangroves' massive root systems are efficient at dissipating wave energy.
During on that day, there is activities that student need to be involved and they split the students into a groups which means each of the group need to do all the activities. First activity, that we need to do is to plant the mangrove's seed, this a fun activity to do because we got a chance to seed the plant by ourselves. Next, the second activities is the person in charge of our group will do a tour around Tanjung Piai and give us some information about the species that have in the Taman Negara.
Lastly, we need to clean up the mangrove forest by collecting all the rubbishes. After that, we finish the rubbish and the rubbish need to be weighted by the staff and recorded it.
Self Reflection
In conclusion, this volunteering program is an interesting yet fun experience to me because it really give lots of informative about the mangrove forest itself. In addition, all the staff that guide us during the tour was really funny and also friendly.
