Reflection Being the Head of Activity Department in IEM MyMedex Industrial Visit 2019-2020
During the IEM Biomedical Engineering Industrial Visit 19/20 (MyMedex), I used problem-solving, collaboration and planning skills to lead the activity department. Besides, I am active in sharpening my skills. Keep trying although challenging.
Activities Done:
Leading the IEM members in UTM to take the bus all the way from UTM, JB to UTM, the KL area. Without staying there, it's a one-day trip to visit the exhibition. There are different booths explaining the usage, the IP and many details of different medical devices. It was fun getting to see everyone from all around the world gather because of love, care and the belief in medical technology advancement.
Venue: MITEC, Kuala Lumpur
Organiser: IEM UTM Chapter and MyMedex, My Events International

1st UTM Varsity of Mandarin Debate Championship 2019
UTM International Varsity Mandarin Debate Championship 2019 was involving international debaters to exchange ideas on the technology application. It involved approximately 300 lecturers and students in total. Although the progress of launching the first-ever international debate championship in UTM was challenging, we managed to get sponsorships, arrange protocols, and invited the Former Deputy Education Minister, YB Puan Teo Nie Ching to attend the closing ceremony of the event.
Over the years, I had been holding different positions, from the usual event organising team to the vice treasurer, to the president of the debate club, also well known as DEPIKIR Club UTM (Kelab Debat, Pidato & 'Pikir). This event, however, was the early stage in the Debate Club where I had been meeting new people and only started to realise the importance of sharpening my critical thinking skills as well as timing myself for giving any speeches.
Debate events are exhausting. Nevertheless, meeting people who have helped me grow and learn new things through a lot of necessary matters. With that, I experience big changes in my personality, attitude and communication skills in a good way. For instance, in my MBTI test, I was an INFJ, an introvert. After countless meetings and training for different needs to organise such a successful international debate championship, I feel as if I have transformed from timidly whispering and sharing, to boldly having direct analysis, MBTI tested out as an ENFJ.
Originally I preferred to express myself in words and drawings, so this acts as a turning point in my life that gradually made me enjoy oral expression as well. It was amazing to also explore new things as a team. The debate motions were all about technological advancement due to the theme of a 'Technology Debate'. Seeing how different nations, Malaysians, Singaporeans and Chinese have different opinions on the motions just broadens the vision.
I was also aware that debate or oral expression makes one's thinking ability improve so quickly. After all, it comes so naturally that we wouldn't even be nervous and have stage fright if we train and treat it with a brave heart. I was courageous to ask many questions back then, ignoring if I look silly or not because judgements are all rather subjective.
During this event, I was still learning in the sponsorship department. I thought that maybe I wanted to be brave enough to seek many sponsors, after all, but turned out that more than 100 companies turned us down, so the team and I went crowdfunding around UTM with sponsors from UTM alumni to make it successful. It taught me that things would be unexpected and maybe far from our idealised situation. So, we must always appreciate what we have and be prepared to have alternatives.
Also, I remembered how the former Deputy Minister of Education in Malaysia, Teo Nie Ching had decided to come when we were shocked that many plans would need to be done in a much more formal way, such as having cars of inviting her, the full opening and closing ceremony at larger halls with beautiful waiting rooms, protocol designs that we would have to craft as it was the first international debate championship we host at the university. Fortunately, we handled everything well. During my time on the core committee, I gained valuable experience in protocol and speech-making. This was also my first international event I emceed in English partnered with a Mandarin-speaking emcee as seen in the picture below.
Venue: FABU, UTM, JB.
Organiser: UTM DEPIKIR Club
Position held: Sponsorship team, timekeeper, emcee of the closing ceremony and core organising team member

Innovation Camp 2022
Innovation Camp 2022 lasted 3 days, with fun and practical workshops and competitions to let the engineers and IT-related students unleash their creativity.
Being a senior who had learned 3D CAD and innovative skills the hard way. In this Innovation Camp, we could become the mentors to share our experiences with the others, it was letting us become helpful while letting the juniors remind us of our purposes and beautiful dreams when we first came to UTM and learn all those engineering software with excitement, doing the projects solely for fun and the society.
Also, I have been the mentor to share my story of creating LOVE for all NFT collection that destigmatizes mental health issues using engineering drawing and CAD skills to have the creations. Then, they're minted and had been forming greater impact on the society. Linking the latest trends with our own field while helping others would fulfil our purpose of learning engineering skills. Also, generalising technology that helps trillion gazillions of people would mean that we have let technology improvise the lifestyles of more beautiful and blossoming lives on this planet Earth.
The core team and I have been preparing for the flow and taking action to ensure our plans go well before and throughout the camp. On Day 1 and Day 2, the other facilitators and I have been guiding different groups on the basics of CAD and innovative thinking skills. Before this, we have scheduled and invited UTM lecturers as our speakers to assist us as well. With the knowledge of 3D CAD and pitching, they have been separated into breakout channels to come up with their own design. On Day 3, the judges evaluate their creativity and applicable level to give out our wonderful prizes. While the judges are discussing their decisions, I was sharing the NFT experience while giving step-by-step tutorials to have a Metamask and OpenSea account to mint any 3D CAD engineering design on the NFT marketplace. After the event, the gift department and the committee members also work together in distributing the T-shirts, cash prizes, certificates and NFT reward. I was in charge of ordering the shirts. Lastly, I also created and was in charge of distributing the NFT prizes to those who were willing to register for cyrpto wallet accounts.
