Throughout semester 1, I attend many online talks from great influencers about industry and revolutions.

Amazon Web Services

AWS Journey

The truth is, I never heard about AWS. What is AWS? Is it an application or a website? On 15 November 2021, I attended an online talk by Dr. Qusay Al-Maatouk. There, for the very first time, I heard about Amazon Web Services.

The task of getting AWS academy cloud foundation badges was assigned to us in November. I started to explore the AWS Academy in December which was during our mid-semester holiday. I used two days of my mid-semester holiday to completed 4 modules (2 modules each day). I completed the rest of the 6 modules in January 2022. Looks like it took a long time to complete all modules, but actually, I only went through the videos and lab only on my free time. Based on the e-certificate I got, I spent 20 hours completing the task of getting AWS academy cloud foundation badges.

I would take some time either during my free time after finishing assignments, after class hours, weekend,s or on holiday to go through the modules. The learning path was challenging as there were many obstacles such as feeling sleepy and Internet problems. Taking notes while watching the videos are very important to me as I often felt sleepy. Other than that, if I felt sleepy, I will pause the video and take a step back to recharge. Both water and snacks also could keep me away from drowsiness. My vision was, if I started a module, I needed to complete it.

The learning process about AWS academy was an exciting experience as each part of the modules was new to me. Some parts required great effort to understand. However, the lab exercises provided helped me a lot to explore more about AWS. After all the struggles, finally, I succeed in finishing all the 10 modules including video, demo, lab, and exam questions, and got the badge also certificate.  I had to log in to Credly to accept the AWS badge and certificate as evidence of successfully completing the modules.

AWS Reflection

The AWS Academy course helps me build my cloud skills and increase my knowledge about cloud computing so that I can get more benefits from the cloud. AWS badge is my motivation to complete this project. Besides,  I felt motivated as I see my friends already completed many modules.

Of course, it was not easy to complete the task as it was new to me. From my point of view, the hardest module is module 6. This is because, this module contains 8 videos, a lab, 2 activities about AWS Lambda and AWS Elastic Beanstalk. Meanwhile, I think module 1 is the easiest as it is the first module that introduces students to AWS and cloud concepts overview.

AWS badge helps people to build credibility and confidence as it verifies one’s potential to design and develop analytics applications on AWS. I can improve my knowledge and skills about cloud computing by getting the badge since I have to go through all the modules containing lecture videos and labs.

From my standpoint, every company should shift to Cloud Computing. This is due to the fact that cloud computing instantly backed up data. Thus, a company does not have to put too much effort into physical devices and can ensure recovery and solutions after a reliable disaster such as transport accidents and oil spills.

Every computer science or UTM student should learn Cloud Computing and get the AWS badge as it really helps us to improve our cloud skills. For all of my friends, I already got my badges. So, what are you waiting for? Get yours and enjoy the benefits of the cloud.

After completing this task of getting AWS academy cloud foundation badges, I improve my skills and knowledge about cloud computing and AWS. I hope after this I can use the cloud wisely. In conclusion, getting the AWS badge is very appropriate to be included in the SECP1513 subject for year 1 students of Computer Science.

Reflection

My goal is that I want to always be focused and eager to learn about Computer Science. Each time I feel exhausted, I will take a step back to relax and recharge myself. I manage my time properly to achieve good grades and pass every course with flying colors. To improve my potential in the industry, I have to be a confident person and also have excellent communication skills. This is because I have to deal with a lot of people during my life as an employee. Other than that, I also have to improve my thinking skills and problem-solving skills as both of these skills are the most needed in a company.

Information and technology subject really helps me expand my knowledge, especially about technology and revolution. Numerous information I got from the industry talks that attend during my semester 1 about 4th IR. With the assigned works by the lecturer, I got to explore some applications and websites such as Power Bi and Proto.Io.

I am very honored to present a thousand thanks to Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Tariq bin Idris because with his help and guidance, I was able to complete all assignments for this subject. He is very understanding and never tired of counseling students about the assignments. On this occasion as well, I would like to thank the members of the group for having given so much help and sparked ideas throughout the case study implementation process. Thank you for being such wonderful teammates. To conclude, I very much enjoyed learning this subject as well as the experience in making the e-Portfolio.
