This group project discussion was started in late February 2020 and successfully completed in mid-April. Our project group, Peacock consists of four students currently studying in Bioinformatics, including Thong Nyook Ann, Lim Wei Hsien, Tan Li Min and Lee Bao Yi (me).

To begin with the project, our group has decided to choose an issue related to the current challenges faced among scholars. We have listed out some topics related. Finally, we decided to carry out a survey on “How Social Media Influences Academic Performances Among Scholars in the Universities in Malaysia”. The aspects we focused mainly to analyze the data on this project is the relationship between time spent and the academic performance among scholars.

Data Collection

During the phase of data collection, we use Google form to collect responses from scholars from all the universities in Malaysia, including both public and private universities. We did face some problems in determining appropriate questions to be included in the survey form. After consultation with our lecturer, Dr Sharin, we managed to do corrections and then the survey forms are distributed via online platforms.

Data Analyzing and Tabulating

After the data is collected, a series of data analyzing and data tabulating processes are conducted. Throughout this project, RStudio, the statistical programming language, is used to tabulate data and produce graphs and plots. Tasks are distributed evenly among us to generate graphs, reports and video presentation*. Microsoft Excel is used to manage graphs (categorizing data’s quantity) while VideoEditor, Filmora and Kapwing are used to edit videos (including subtitles).

Reflection

For reflection, data analysis capabilities I have obtained are useful to the coming Project 2. Here, we learnt how to strengthen teamwork spirits. Also, I have learnt how to communicate more efficiently with team members, using social media platforms (also corresponding to one of the data: Communication as factor having the second highest counts) especially during this online learning period, in conjunction with the Movement Control Order(MCO) period.

Thanks to all Peacock group members contributing brilliant ideas and efforts, meanwhile appreciating all patient guidance by our PSDA lecturer, Dr Sharin Hazlin binti Huspi.  :)
