French Reflection

I never thought that learning another new language could be such a hard task. I realized that French is a little bit more complicated, instead of saying directly Mi nombre es Kennard which mean My name is Kennard, French tends to be indirect, Je m'appelle Kennard which means I call myself Kennard. I think this is why people around the world nicknamed French as the most Romantic Language in the world. Another part that I found hard about French is the pronunciation of the words; I need to be gentle when trying to speak in French. I also had a little bit issue with the books that we were using for this term as the books were 100% French, a little bit hard for me to get myself used to it. I also found myself troubled with the Conjugation of the words.

On the project side, our group initially faces problem such as deciding who we would like to talk about and present, but the hardest part is to actually what to talk about when we had found a suitable candidate to present to all my classmates as our french language proficiency is not that good yet. And then there is another problem, which is the theme and the design of our slides as our Lecturer has clearly stated its best that the slides to be pictures only and a minimum amount of words, there should be no wall of texts on the slides.

Although I did faced a lot of troubles during my courses, I strive to solve and find a solution with my Problem Solving Skills in order to ensure I am able to learn French as smoothly and effectively as possible. With my Digital Literacy skills, I was able to find a very useful Application or Apps for my Tablet which teaches French in a fun and simple way, which is Duolingo. The apps really helped me understand and learn new and simple words in French such as pomme, lettre and livre. Regarding the problems that arises when I was doing the French project, I also utilize my digital literacy skills and manage to find several webpages online that gives me a guide on how to create an interesting and resourceful slides that at the same time also makes it easier for my group to present during the presentation. As a result, I am able to produce a slides which I am proud to say is to my satisfaction and the lecturer also liked my slides and the presentation.

At the end of the day, in order to further improve my French (other than the sake of passing my marks and getting an A of course), I tried several methods such as trying to read French articles and watch their movies. But I found myself to be more inclined towards watching the movies (such as Inglorious Basterds) as I tend to learn more than just the language through films. I am able to to learn the way they speak it, on how their accent and their actions when they are speaking French, and at the same time fill my eyes with the wonderful and nice scenarios of Europe being featured in the film. Watching French films is like a glimpse of how the Europe looks like for me, such as the way they dress throughout the season, their past time activities and also the way they dine. As an overall, I am grateful to be able to learn the French language as part of my degree course in UTM
