Reflection for industrial visit and reports

  This program has brought a lot of positive impact to Malaysia. One of the biggest impacts is it improve the business model of our country. It is an undeniable fact that e-commerce has become one of the most important type of business around the globe. People who join e-rezeki can learn how to expand their business through online. This program also allows people who have skill and no job to earn living for themselves. This will eventually help to improve our country economy and reduce poverty as people got more alternative way to find job. This program also create a competitive environment for information technology related workers as the platform is offering global related job. This will eventually improve our nation’s knowledge and understanding about information technology system.

   After attending the talk organised by MDEC, I am really interested in joining e-rezeki. This is because e-rezeki can prepare myself better for my future career. Since I am an undergraduate now, I hope that I got more opportunity to expose myself into digital related work before I graduate. This is to let me gain more knowledge and experience before I really got into computer work related field. Apart from that, I believe that this platform will also help me to sharpen my skill. Beside, I also hope that by joining this program, I can get an alternative income to reduce my parents’ burden as my parents really work hard to support for my university tuition fee. I also think that this program is very important as more people will be working as a freelancer in the future. So freelancer can be my alternative career or even my main career in the future. To put it more simply, I think that this program is beneficial to all people and it is definitely worth joining.

   From the talk, I learned that we must be ready to change and adapt to the new world. We cannot deny the fact that the world is keep changing. So we must keep learning and upgrading our skill. We can upgrade our skill by utilising the internet such as getting information and news from all around the world. According to our speaker, Mr Mohd Ihsanuddin Jamhari said that the next 10 years, the amount of freelancer will equal to the number of employee. Some big company like Netflix and Android do not even hire people, instead they hire freelancer. Not only that, a student can also work as a freelancer. A very good example is a student named Raymond earned rm 16000 after he joined this program during his time studying in University Technology Malaysia. Freelancer can come from various field even for the engineering field. I also appreciate the organizer for organizing such an informative talk and let us expose to such a beneficial platform. I really hope that there will be more activities like this for the upcoming time. 

                                                          NALI

  After attending NALI 2018, we observed that most educators are implementing effective learning among the students by using digital technology. We could not deny the fact that we are moving into an era where all information can be gained through the tips of our finger. What we can see is that NALI is trying to apply an idea where students can learn more effective and efficient through innovation in education. The educators are now trying to develop engaging entertaining an educational custom game-based learning experiences that are used to attract the students’ interest in learning.

  We believe that if NALI continue to develop various type of teaching method, then the students are able to link varies resources in several varying format and improve their understanding on a particular subject. Not only that, by delivering courses via online, the students can obtain the resources anytime and anywhere and it should not be a problem for students to receive knowledge.

  In conclusion, NALI show us how an education in the future will be like. The future education will focus more on developing the students’ critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skill so that the students can overcome the upcoming challenges in the new digital era. 

                                                                                                   After attending the industrial visit from Adax, we are more confirm and sure that we have selected the correct course, data engineering. It is an undeniable fact that big data has indeed become a trend and the demand for it will definitely increase in the near future. From the talk, we had a clearer vision about data engineer’s job scope. They also taught us ways on how to become a better data engineer. Not only that, we were also introduced with a term called “Data Hero”. We were so hyped about it and this had strengthened our believes and make us more determined to achieve our goal.  

  During the talk, the last speaker Mark mentioned that what we studied now may not be fully applied in our career. He also mentioned that we should keep updating ourselves and learn new things. From the talk, we realised the importance of life long study. We have to keep updating ourselves on technology related stuff and also keep learning. We also plan to enhance our skill on several aspects like tools and component of data architecture, SQL and other database solutions, data warehousing and ETL tools and also Hadoop-Based Analytics (HBase, Hive, MapReduce and so on).  We believe by keep improving our skills, we can definitely improve our potential in this industry, data engineering. We also plan to get Google’s Certified Professional, IBM Certified Data Engineer, CCP Data Engineer from Cloudera if we got this opportunity.

  Program offered by MDEC that peaked our interest to join is Data Star. Data star is a paid graduate finishing school training program that includes intensive data science and mentoring with experienced data scientists and a possible placement with industry partners of Data Stars. Data star is also driven by ASEAN Data Analytics eXchange or ADAX. Data Star is an MDEC initiative in partnership with the Center for Applied Data Science, universities and industry-leading partners in Malaysia to promote the development of industry-ready data professionals. We are extremely interested in joining this course as it is related to the course we are studying now. Not only that, we also believe that it is extremely beneficial for us to participate in this type of program to enhance our skill and also our ability to solve data related problem.  

  First and foremost, we hope to become a successful data engineer who can manage and organize data while looking for trends or inconsistencies that affect the business goal. Our goal is to master everything that is needed to make us a better data engineer. In addition, we want to be people who are involved in the development of an IT-enabled society in Malaysia and develop software that contains large amounts of data that will benefit the whole world. We also want to help develop our country through digital technology. 

  After we got involve in design thinking, we are surer that we have chosen the right course, data engineering. There is no doubt that Big Data has indeed become a trend and will definitely increase its demand in the near future. During the process, we realized the importance of data as data act as the prove or statistic that help us to understand the demand or problem around us. After the design thinking process, we also realized data analysis and data engineers are highly needed as there are more data created by the user days by days. We hope that we can use our skill to help people by using the data that we have collected. Not only that, this project had strengthened our convictions and made us more determined to achieve our objective which is to become a data engineer that can make the world a better place.

  The internship program offered by CIMB peaked our interest to join. This program focuses on their corporate culture, we will earn more about the internal functioning of the banking industry and industry leaders. They also organize regular networking sessions and training to make our learning experience a memorable one. The reason why we wanted to join this program is because the allowance offered by CIMB is quite high. Apart from that, the we will also get offered a job full time job once we graduated provided that we became the best intern. We also hope to improve ourselves about financing knowledge.
