Justification in joining this activity is to learn some basis of French language. French language is rarely be spoken in Malaysia so it was good to learn a new language for us in order to strengthen our language skills and overcome language barriers while we are in other country which is not using our mother tongue as their general language.
The graduate attributes were focused on communication skills and thinking skills. By learning a new language, we will have the ability to communicate with foreigner by speaking their mother tongue, this is very good because we can learn the language that some other Malaysians might not know, this could be a big benefit for us when we are finding a job of foreign company. Besides, thinking skills are needed because we need to think about the translation from our mother tongue to the French language in our mind intending to learn and speak it.
Content of the activity is about a speaker named Chm. Dr. Mohd Akmali Bin Mokhter who taught some basic French grammar, pronunciation and many other French-related knowledge which really helped to improve our French language skills.
Self-reflection
Impact of this activity on the development of my Graduate Attributes is my communication skills and thinking skills has been improved because I have learnt some basis of French language, this will be very nice if we are able to communicate with various type of languages, this is very helpful if we are travelling or working at foreign country because the language barrier might be able to overcame. By always train ourselves and do some speaking practices of foreign languages, it can help us to improve our thinking skills as well because we will always think about the translation from our mother tongue to the following foreign language as we are doing speaking or writing practice. Moreover, this is a good activity because I can learn a new language that I never have a touch before. The strength of this activity is very obvious, participants whoever took part in it were able to learn some basic French grammar, speaking skills etc., I hope I can join more foreign language classes in the future to strengthen my language skills even more. Lastly, the challenges that I faced is I do not have the good environment to train my French speaking skills because nobody around me is speaking French, so I need to watch more French videos or music to practice my French listening and speaking skills since listening is a core to learn a new language that we never knew before.
