Goals & Expected Results
- State the goals of experiment
The goal of this project is to speed up the decoding process of fractal image with the use of NIOS II systems.
- State the expected results of the project
The expected result of this project is the fractal image decoding process can be successfully run in FPGA with the NIOS II systems and shorter the time spend.
For this week, I have done the research on NIOS II application. I have found some difference material to read out.
Week 2
State how does the test bed/prototype help to achieve the objective of the experimental?
The prototype was successfully reducing the time taken for the compare to the conventional method of Fractal Image decoding.
On 29 Mac 2022, I have attended the Online Research Methodology. The coordinator of FYP showed the guidelines and action plan for the FYP2. The coordinator gave some briefing as well for the FYP2 seminar were planned to be held on 23rd June 2022. He also mentions the demo video need to be submitted before the seminar.
This week, I have start to try on building the NIOS II environment with the use of Quartus 18.1 software into FPGA MAX10.
Week 3
Design Experiment
- Draft the designing of experiment.
The design was starting with building the NIOS II systems into the FPGA Board to allow the Fractal Image decoding software can be install into the environment.
- Will the experiment help to achieve the objectives?
Yes, This experiment was did for achieving the objective of the project.
For This week, after meeting with my supervisor, supervisor had suggested to change my FPGA board from MAX10 to DE2 as MAX10 board does not have SD card slot to use. Then, I have rebuilt the NIOS II system with use of Quartus 13.0 software into DE2 board as the Quartus 18.1 software are not support the DE2 FPGA board.
Week 4
Initial Data Analysis
For this week, I have tried to install some software into the NIOS II systems built to test the functionality. Yet, I have figure out the DE2 board I use have a limitation of small internal memory and cause some program could not functioning well.
Week 5
Pitfalls
What are the unsuspected difficulties faced in order to achieve the goals of experiment?
The DE2 board used have very small internal memory that cause some program could not run as I expected and cause error during the simulation process.
For this week, after meet with my supervisor, my supervisor lends me DE2-115 board which have bigger internal memory that might solve the problem I face. Then, I was continuing to build the NIOS II.
