Summary of Final Year Project
My Final Year Project Title is Comparison Between Bat Algorithm and Water Cycle Algorithm for Distributed Generation Placement Optimization. The purpose of this project is to determine the best location for distributed generation using Bat Algorithm and Water Cycle Algorithm with different case of power system and size of distributed generation.
Over the last few years, the electricity demand increases due to the rapid development of industry and country. Therefore, the electrical supply need to be increased so that to fulfill the demand requirements. Distributed generation is one of the alternative technologies that can help to improve the situation. The installation of distributed generation can help to reduce line losses, reduce cost, improve voltage profile and so on. However, the injection of distributed generation will give positive and negative impact at the same time if not install properly.
In this project, the Bat Algorithm and Water Cycle Algorithm are introduced as proposed algorithm to optimize the location of distributed generation to improve the voltage profile. The IEEE 33 bus system and 69 bus system are used as the case study and the MATLAB will be used as simulation software. Different sizing of distributed generation and other constraints are considered in this project. From the overall simulation result, it showed that the Water Cycle Algorithm has produced better solution than Bat Algorithm with higher voltage profile improvement.
Thus, Water Cycle Algorithm is justified as a more suitable method to be used in distributed generation placement optimization in power system due to its better performance in distributed generation placement.
