I was appointed as the Program director. My role is to make sure the program will run smoothly , lead and supervise the committee member to do their work.

The reason why i joined this program is because as we know,  during the fourth year, I have to go through an internship before I graduate. So I believe that by joining this program I can gain a lot of knowledge regarding the internship and ease the process of it when the time comes. Internship is totally different from learning at the university as it is the real workplace. By joining this program, I can learn and take lessons from the experience that my senior had to go through during her internship period and implement it when I go through the internship myself in the future. In addition to that, I joined this program as a program director, even though it is a hard position but I would like to challenge myself and prove that I can do a great job in handling this program.

One of the graduate attributes that are related to this program is adaptability. There are huge differences between the learning environment and workplace environment thus it is important for us to be able to adapt to these changes. From this program, it exposed us to the reality of working and how to adapt myself into these situations. It can be said that the main focus of this program is adaptability as the aim of this program is to make sure that students have ample knowledge regarding internships so that we are able to do our best in the internship period.

On top of that, leadership and teamworking skills are needed when conducting this program. As a leader, I need to lead and supervise my team members so that the program can run smoothly. Through this program I was able to improve my leadership skills by giving me the opportunities to improve the flaws i had when i became the director in the previous program. Besides, it also focuses on communication skills. As a leader I have to communicate with my team members and direct them to do their task. In order to convey my message effectively, communication skills are really crucial.

What is in the industry is a program that exposes students specifically for the psychology with hrd course to know what they are going to face during the internship  period in our fourth year of study. This program invited our school’s alumni to give a  talk about her experience during the internship. As the program is also intended to make sure the students are prepared for their upcoming internship, it also includes on how to find the company that accepts an intern position, the process of finding the place to do an internship and many the process of gaining the internship position.

Self-Reflection

By joining this program as a director, it gives me a whole new experience of being a leader.  I have become more conscious of my position and the responsibility that I had to carry when acquiring this position.  I believe the experience gave me the ability to improve my leadership and teamworking skills. To add on, as the program gave exposure on how the situation was during the internship period, I am able to prepare myself for the upcoming internship period.

In my opinion, my self strength towards this program is that I have a prior experience in becoming a director. It is my third time becoming a director and because of the past experience, I believe I had done a good job running this program. Even though I had an experience becoming the program director, there are still some areas that I am still lacking such as I am not able to distribute the work properly because I am afraid that my committee will become burden by all the works, however in this program, I got to improve this situation as I had learned the importance of team working. Because of that, I saw that this program can run smoothly compared to other programs I had handled.

One of the challenges that arise in this program is time management. The program was held after mid semester break which is around the time that I need to submit my assignment. As I was the leader, I needed to supervise each of the works that my committee did and it consumed a lot of time and energy to check all of it. Because of it, I find it hard to do my assignment as I had used all my attention and energy to make sure this program  ran smoothly. For me it is the biggest challenge because in everything I do, I will make sure that I do it perfectly whether it is an assignment or program. With the time constraint, I find it hard to do a good job in both the program and the assignment.  However, I overcome this challenge by making a to-do list everyday. I will list all the things that I should do for that day and try to complete all of it. By doing it, I can manage my time more wisely and I can do more things in one day. Not only I can check my progress on my task but I am also able to do all the work in the given deadline.
