Mini Report
Boxtrolls is an industrial sharing and bonding event organized by the Computer Graphics and Multimedia Association (CGMA) for all batches of Computer Science (Graphics and Multimedia Software) students. The event is located at Dewan Kuliah 1, L50 in UTM and started at 8.30 pm and ended at 5.00 pm. After taking the first attendance, the host briefed us about the tentative program and hosted a small ice-breaking session by picking some members to go up the stage and introduce themselves. Then, selected fourth-year seniors that had finished their industrial training were invited to share their internship experiences. At the end of each sharing session, there is a Q&A session with the senior who did the sharing, and we can ask some questions regarding the internship details like the interview process, company environment, skills required, salary, monthly expenses, etc. After the industrial sharing ended, the Q&A session involving all fourth-year seniors began. The randomly selected seniors had to answer one of the questions from the Google form we filled out before the program. Then, we had a lunch break at 1.00 pm and took the second attendance for the second session. The afternoon session activity was team building, whereby each group had to build tower and weapon to attack the other groups with the materials provided, namely cardboard, paper cups, scissors and tape. The group division was random, so each group had about 8 to 10 members and involved students from different years. Therefore, this team-building activity improved our adaptability, communication, leadership, teamworking, and thinking skills. The marking criteria for the tower were creativity, design, height, quality and stability. My group had a small discussion before starting, and we decided to make a tower with the Disney animations theme. After building the tower together, we proceed with the weapon. The weapon-making was challenging because the material was too weak to destroy the cardboard tower. Once the time was up, each group sent two representatives to present the tower built and attack other groups using the weapon created. The judges gave marks based on the design and endurance of each tower. Finally, this program ended with a prize-giving session for the winners and a photo session. We dismissed after taking the last attendance.
Self-Reflection
Boxtrolls is the first CGMA activity organized physically after the pandemic, and therefore we did not know our seniors in person before this event. This event makes me more familiar with the seniors and friends from the same year. Besides, I have a better plan on what company to choose for internship in the upcoming year from the information shared by our seniors. Moreover, the words from our seniors are motivating and heartwarming, and this comforts me a lot, especially during the busy examination week. This event improves my adaptability by dividing us into groups with unfamiliar people and social circles to perform a team task. Besides, my communication skills have levelled up through team communication. In addition, my leadership and teamworking skills have improved by working in a team-oriented environment for a whole day. Lastly, I have boosted my thinking skills by exploring a suitable design for the tower and weapon. This event is fun and memorable.
