Self-Reflection

Participating in the "Fake Psychology: Pseudo Psychology" event had significant effects on my graduate attributes development. For example, it improved my thinking skills by providing me with the knowledge I needed to analyze psychological claims and distinguish between real information and pseudoscience. I learned to rethink the validity of numerous psychological theories and practices from the presentation of Dr. Alizi Alias. It inspired me to think about future research and information with a more critical mindset. The talk also helped me to improve my comprehension skills of the information obtained. I learned how to manage a large amount of psychological information available and make decisions based on credible research by learning to identify reliable sources and understanding the relevance of evidence-based practices. It also helped me understand more about the scientific process and the importance of psychological knowledge based on actual evidence. My interest in psychology and commitment to critical thinking was my self-strength in participating in the talk. The challenge in the talk for me is confirmation bias, which occurs when people only seek information that supports their pre-existing thoughts or views. I overcame this challenge by actively listening to the speaker for different concepts and being willing to critically analyze my own opinions. This talk expanded my understanding of pseudo-psychology and I learned knowledge for evaluating psychological statements.
