LEADERSHIP RSS

There are 3 things that has been learned throught this theory base class are teamwork, grab opportunity and thoughts. Teamwork plays a vital role that is A "team leader" is also someone who has the capability to drive performance within a group of people. Team leaders utilize their expertise, their peers, influence, and/or creativeness to formulate an effective team. Other than that, grab opportunity  defines as an opportunity is your best opening to add value to people in ways that best align with who you are and most energize your spirit. Opportunities are found in your greatest opening to give not your greatest chance to get. I should add, getting is always a component of an opportunity even if getting is simply personal satisfaction. Last but not least, thoughts as always to be the good and clear as a leader so that any involvement in any of things.

I was introduced to the class with the briefing on this subject by En. Fauzi. He briefed on what we will learn in this course, the outcomes of this subject and the project that we need to organize by our own. As usual, on every first class meet-up there would be an ice-breaking session with the group members so did we. I've met new friends as the lecturer assigned everyone with different number and randomly chose everyone to be in a specific group. Alhamdulillah it went well although we were a bit shy at first, but we overcame that.

Leadership & community taught me on how to be more dependent, grab opportunities, teamwork skills and much more.

For the first and second class with En. Fauzi, we had a briefing about the learning outcomes of this course, and what are we supposed to do as a leader. En Fauzi also showed to us what his students had done last year to give us an idea what we should improve for this time. After that, we were given time to introduce ourselves so that all of us can work as a team successfully. After an ice-breaking session, we  are required to form our own groups and start to discuss about the project that we want to do. My groupmates and I decided to choose mushroom as our main task. We need to organise our project by ourselves such as build the mushroom's house. Eventhough this course is a bit tough for me in term of the time that need to be sacrificed, but all in all it has been a good experience for me.

On the 12-14th of April, I went to Tanjung Surat island with my coursemates who are members of the Leadership and Community Society. The purpose of this trip was to carry out community service and voluntary work to help the villagers of Kampung Tanjung Surat. The community service involves teaching and helping the villagers to make fertilizer from waste such as dry leaves, twigs and goat manure and growing mushroom. The point of this is to help the villagers develop a source of side income while simultaneously protecting the environment.

During the 3 days 2 night project, I also had the opportunity to talk with the villagers about their lifestyles and the issues they had. A few of them expressed their disappointment at the lack of development in their island, and thus the dwindling number of villagers. The island used to have a Chinese community but they have migrated to the cities. From the conversations I had with the villagers and my experience staying in that remote island, I begun to appreciate how much I have taken for granted public facilities and infrastructure such as clean toilets, clinics, rubbish collection services etc. The villagers do not have access to these. I became a more grateful person and also more aware of the inequalities between the haves and the have-nots in Malaysia.
